Came across this topic on an anime related website. I think it’s pretty sad (if not tragic) for a variety of reasons. What do people here think? Does this attitude pretty much sum up our secular culture?

Mhm, I’m not sure what to think.
You can never take these websites seriously, first of all.
Second, the answer to this question becomes entirely irrelevant if people don’t believe in God (you need to fear and love God, or at least admit the very real possibility of His existence, before you answer this question seriously) – and unbelief is no surprise.
At the same time, that breakdown is pretty accurate. God did tell us that the path to Heaven is narrow, which means fewer individuals will travel it, vs. the well-traveled one.
What this reflects to me most of all is the deadened conception of the spiritual. People allow their souls to dim out, to feel nothing, and that sort of death is far worse than the physical one.

Exactly, hence it’s tragic. Don’t you think? Plus it’s despair, no? Of course you can’t take everything seriously, but then people there have nothing to hide. Despair that there is no way out of destiny of hell. It’s also sad for me that some people have resigned themselves to their fate, which may be honest in some way, but is in effect what you say - a spiritual death.

There is very much a Heaven and hell, and they are completely different. Heaven is where all those born again will reside for all eternity, within the very presence of God. Hell is an extraordinarily horrible place, created for satan and his fallen angels. All those that die without having, at the very least, a relationship with Christ, will end up in hell until the Great White Throne judgment.
No matter what you have done in your life, without that relationship, you will die alone and you will see hell. No 2 ways about it.

Some years ago there was a public poll taken asking if they believed in hell. The majority of people said yes. Then a 2nd question was asked. Do you think that hell is for all eternity? And the majority said no, that eventually everyone would go to heaven.
This then is not hell but purgatory that the majority believe in. It might be the same with this poll.

How very sad. I think it’s a pretty accurate estimation, though. Most people have an idea of what is right and what is wrong, but have numbed themselves to this fact so that they can, and will, do what they know in their hearts is wrong at every turn.
I used to be this way. It’s a terrible state to be in. I can only hope that they will see the light and try to make amends.

Yes, one does feel for them, since many of us (me included) were like them. Here is a good comment from Fred: "And don’t forget the Holy Souls in Purgatory. We should pray every day for sinners to repent. If not for others’ prayers, I’m sure I’d be living in fear and misery instead of the joy of Christ.
