What is the typical day in the life of a Catholic priest? Do they get free time, for example? What sorts of things do they do besides Mass?

Depends on the ministry the priest is involved in. It also depends on if one is a secular or a religious priest.

It varies greatly but priests do get free time.
 
The priests in our parish get a lot of free time. They technically only get one day off, but since each of our priests only has duty day two days of the week, the days they are not on duty are pretty much their own unless they have scheduled an appointment, have to attend a meetin, or are going over to the school.
