Hey! I’m writing a little somethin’ on our Paschal Sacrifice. Someone once mentioned before that Bethlehem means “house of bread” and that Our Lord was placed in a feeding troph at birth, as signs of the eventual institution of his new Passover meal. I thought this was really cool and was wondering if anyone has other examples of this sort of thing from Scripture?

(What’s more, does anyone know where the Mass in Heaven is located in Revelation–the passages speaking of the Lamb slain on the altar before the Throne, while the saints praise and sing, etc.?)

A few examples of Old Testament typology of the Eucharist:
  • Passover lamb
  • Manna in the desert
  • Elijah given hearth cakes to strengthen him for the journey (1 Kings 19:4-8)
  • The widow’s jar of flour that does not go empty (1 Kings 17)
New Testament typology of the Eucharist:
  • Wedding at Cana (changing water to wine)
  • Multiplication of loaves
There are many more.

The entire Book of Revelation is full of imagery of the Mass. For a detailed study, read The Lamb’s Supper by Scott Hahn. I think the specific passage you are referring to is in Chapter 5.

I always found this interesting:

The Talmud says that the only sacrifice that will exist in the messianic age is what is called the Todah; a sacrifice of lamb, bread and wine, AKA the “thank offering” or “thankgiving.” Eucharist, of course, means “thanksgiving.”

Another Old Testament typology I like is found in Genesis 14:18-20, where Melchizedek, the King of Salem and a priest of God Most High, brought out bread and wine and blessed it.

You would do well to read Hahn’s “The Lamb’s Supper.” It is a highly informative and highly readable discussion of connections between the Mass and the book of Revelation.
