that’s COOL!One of my favorite types comes from Exodus 17:8-16:
17:8 Then came Am’alek and fought with Israel at Reph’idim. 17:9 And Moses said to Joshua, “Choose for us men, and go out, fight with Am’alek; tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in my hand.” 17:10 So Joshua did as Moses told him, and fought with Am’alek; and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill. 17:11 Whenever Moses held up his hand, Israel prevailed; and whenever he lowered his hand, Am’alek prevailed. 17:12 But Moses’ hands grew weary; so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat upon it, and Aaron and Hur held up his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side; so his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.17:13 And Joshua mowed down Am’alek and his people with the edge of the sword. 17:14 And the LORD said to Moses, “Write this as a memorial in a book and recite it in the ears of Joshua, that I will utterly blot out the remembrance of Am’alek from under heaven.” 17:15 And Moses built an altar and called the name of it, The LORD is my banner, 17:16 saying, “A hand upon the banner of the LORD! The LORD will have war with Am’alek from generation to generation.”
I see it as a prefigurement of:
CALVARY -
Moses climbs hill and extends his arms;
Jesus climbs Calvary and extends His arms on the cross.
MASS (the ongoing presentation of Calvary) -
Moses uses Aaron and Hur to assist in continuing to keep his arms extended.
(Aaron=priest; Hur means “white linen” = righteous deeds of saints Rev 19:8)Jesus sacrifice continues to be offered thru priesthood. Our good deeds joined with Our Lords to merit grace in battle against evil.
CATHOLIC CHURCH as institution where sacrifice of Jesus offered -
when Moses needs assistance, he sits on a stone/rock.
when Jesus establishes church it is on the rock of Peter.

I have read here more than once that Catholic typology is rather. . . . lacking.
You missed a bit of the story, NotWorthy. Look at what happens when God tells Abraham not to sacrifice Isaac:Some information on Isaac and Jesus:
¨ Isaac and Jesus were “only, beloved” sons of a righteous father [Ishmael had been sent away]
¨ Both Isaac and Jesus are identified as the “son of Abraham” [see Matthew 1:1]
¨ Both were offered in sacrifice
¨ The sacrifice was offered in the land of Moriah - Jerusalem
¨ Both sons carried the wood for their own sacrifice [see John 19:27]
¨ Both were “bound” and placed on top of the wood
¨ Both willingly allow themselves to be offered in sacrifice
I only read that last one…And I must say. You bring up some WAY awesome points. They make me happy too. Christian “reunity”.How about the entire history of Jews being a foreshadowing of the history of the Church (in a spiritual sense):
OT Typology and Church History
How about how the Two WItnesses of Revelation 11 are going back to the prophets of the OT, but in the NT they are fulfilled in the Magisterium of the Catholic Church (Scripture and Tradition):
The Two Witnesses and the Witness of the RCC
How about the similarity between the OT kingdom schism, and the NT kingdom schism:
OT and NT parallels in Schisms
these are at least what i see in personal meditation.
blessings!

Alas, my memory is not worthy, also!!!You missed a bit of the story, NotWorthy. Look at what happens when God tells Abraham not to sacrifice Isaac:As Abraham looked about, he spied a ram caught by its horns in the thicket. So he went and took the ram and offered it up as a holocaust in place of his son.The ram is caught in the thicket = crown of thorns. This ram is sacrificed in place of Isaac = the sacrifice of Christ in place of our own death. Note also that Abraham rides there on a donkey.
If anyone is interested in some typology associated with the mysteries of the Rosary, try this page.
Actually, until recently, I understood this to be true statement regarding Catholics. Typology, among Catholic scholars, was largely ignored. It’s seen a rebirth in the last 50 years or so, if I remember correctly. That would be good for those of us who are not too well informed about typology.

thanks for the comments.I only read that last one…And I must say. You bring up some WAY awesome points. They make me happy too. Christian “reunity”.I hope you’re right. I’d like to see more of this, with a less annoying background (greeeen).
There’s room for both, no?Alas, my memory is not worthy, also!!!
Wasn’t Isaac gone from Abraham for three days as well? From the time that God told Abraham that he was to sacrifice his “own beloved son” to when God released him from his duty was three days.
Also, notice that Abraham says, “God will provide the sheep for the sacrifice”. This is a promise that will take some 2000 or so years to fulfill on a nearby hill.
Thanks.thanks for the comments.
Well, the one on the two witnesses and OT typology one can be viewed on my blog that is BLACK background with white letters, but there’s still green letters occasionally for teaching emphasis.
Here’s the links at the end:
two witnesses is shorter than OT typology, but I would recommend both as good reads, similar subject matter. But if these other backgrounds are not good, let me know.

MELCHIZEDEKWhat is your favorite typological connection between the Old Testament and the New?
Mine is the Ark of the Covenant and Mary…
Both contained the embodiment of the covenant within them.
Both were untouchable to men.
Both lead the people of God in battle.
