In his statement, Hogan insisted that “the University administration shares my commitment to the principles of academic freedom,” but “at the same time, we do believe it’s important to fully investigate all of the details related to this situation.”
“As I’m sure you’re aware, it is sometimes the case that public reports may convey only part of the story. **I think it important to reserve judgment until I have all of the facts **and I hope you’ll agree,” he wrote.
It would have been better for him to have done this in the first place. He reached a judgment and fired someone before he had ‘all of the facts’.

I’m not sure that University of Illinois President Michael J. Hogan made the decision to terminate Dr. Howell. From the news reports, it seems the decision was made, in part, by lower members of the administration, and in collaboration with the the chairman of the Religious Studies department.

Hmmmm… this reminds me of another situation where someone said “…not being there and not seeing all the facts… the Cambridge Police acted stupidly.”

I guess ignorance is the new due diligence.
 
When will people in administration (esp in colleges) get all the facts before a decision
is made?
 
I hope they will be fair in their review. I also hope that they reinstate him.

The good news is that if greedy Mike is making a statement on this situation then that is an indication that the negative publicity is starting to sting them a bit.
