U.S. births fall, and virus could drive them down more

Do you think there will be a massive “Corona baby” surge late this year? Sure, more um … opportunities present themselves but it’d seem more couples would attempt to avoid during such times.

Other interesting tidbits:

• Birth rates fell last year for nearly all age groups up to 34 years old, but rose for women in their early 40s.

— The birth rate for 15– to 19-year-olds dropped 5 percent from 2019. It’s fallen almost every year since 1991.

The last one makes me wonder just how much past fertility rates were a product of teen pregnancies.
