U.S. Cardinal William Levada, former head of C.D.F., dies in Rome

U.S. Cardinal William J. Levada, former head of the Vatican's doctrinal congregation and retired archbishop of San Francisco and Portland, Oregon, died Sept. 26 in Rome. He was 83.

May he rest in peace. Many of us in Los Angeles, where his ecclesiastical career began, are especially proud of his achievements and years of service.
