We have been listening to the RSS feeds over the internet and reading books and doing stuff together in the evenings. Well the one Catholic pod cast I know of is only 1/2 hour a week so we almost finished this year. I want to keep every one away from the TV so and we have ubuntu on all our computers.

First question is do you know how I can listen to this:
www.relevantradio.com

And do you know of any other catholic sites to listen to shows or better yet stories for the kids (age 1-7)

Thanks for your help

I will point my boyfriend, a Ubuntu user, to this thread tonight, as see what he has to say. 🙂

Pardon my internet ignorance but what is a Ubuntu user??

Childofmary: Ubuntu is an open-source (meaning anyone can edit the code) operating system. You would use it instead of a Windows or Mac operating system.

Teddy: He said that it’s in a Windows-only format, and that it’s impossible to play in VLC, or on a Mac. He’ll look for a work-around later.

Thank you pumpkinbeast:)

Thanks Everyone.
pumpkinbeast,
I was going to try VLC tonight. I might still load it just in case he says do this or that in VLC then I will already have it.

mart(name removed by moderator)orres,
I am loading that know, Thanks
Do you know of any others?

childofmary1143,
We use Edubuntu (which is educational stuff for the kids) but its the same as ubuntu but directed at kids. We switched to open source about 2 years ago when someone gave us 2 computers for the kids. I was just going to buy windows and some one showed me this and I love it. Henya (my wife) has a new computer that messed up after a thunderstorm. She tried ubuntu for a week then I had to put windows back on for her. The next day after work she wanted Ubuntu again so now thats all we have.

I am still very new to Linux but as far as this program has come in the past 2 years I would recommend it to anyone if they were not ready to buy a new computer yet.

Unfortunately I couldn’t find a way to get it to work. The problem is that they’re using a non-standard and proprietary streaming audio format. You could try writing them a nice letter explaining that streaming MP3 or AAC would be as good (MP3) or better (AAC) and also have the added benefit of working on operating systems other than windows (such as Mac OS or Linux).

Unfortunately I have tried this with other internet radio stations and never had much luck. Maybe you will?
