This is happening in the (ethnically diverse) city where I live. Objections by other faiths have been heartening. But the sign of things to come, perhaps…

Originally it was reported hospital chiefs were definitely meeting to discuss a ban because of the MRSA risk but also, prominently, because of a possibility of offense to other faiths… After the recent significant press coverage (front page stories in two nationals today, and in our prime local paper) it appears the are backtracking, saying they only want ‘to store the bibles safely away’.

It’s garbage, of course. Yes, they want to store the bibles away, and as soon as the press interest dies down…down some broken stairs, without lights, in a cupboard marked ‘beware of the leopard’ *

We keep fighting on…

*with apologies to Douglas Adams RIP

I would love to see the Gideons start distributing Bibles with a wipeable, vinyl cover, and then see what excuse the hospital staff comes up with.

They replied to my email expressing horror at the terrible stories that they wanted to ban Bibles. They never wanted to ban Bibles. It’s all been a horrible misunderstanding.

Never believe anything till it’s officially denied, is my theory…
