Muslims of the UK have lost their 3rd straight demand of trying to get non-Muslims to cater to Islam. The first being the Muslim man who sued a supermarket because he had to handle alcohol. The second demand which was shot down were the Muslims launching a petition trying to stop a new Tesco Supermarket from selling any alcohol at all. Now the third is a UK Muslim cabbie who got fined for refusing to allow a blind person with a seeing eye dog into his cab, as many Muslims believe that Islam is against dogs. The cabbie was fined £300 after responding to a summons with a guilty plea. He will have to pay this, along with £150 in legal costs and a £15 victim surcharge, within 28 days. Thankfully the citizens of the UK are slowly waking up and standing up to the Islamists. Cheers mates!!

Can you believe it? Muslims are trying to have alcohol banned in all of infidel land.

Huh. I wonder if US cab drivers will be fined for not picking up, ohhhh say, black people. Both that all-too-frequent state of affairs and this case are repugnant. Sigh. 😦

People who go into service industry jobs where they WILL be dealing with all kinds of people should know damn well that means EVERYONE, except for those who are clearly hazardous. You’d think that the color of their money would be enough - that’s the job, and if they cannot handle it, then they should not be working in such fields.

You know, theres a Quaker town in the U.K that successfully banned alcohol being sold in any of their shops. Those Quaker extremists are trying to take away our freedom too i suppose?

The cabbie misinterpreted what Islam teaches about service dogs.

Oh, agreed about that misinterpretation!

And no, cab drivers here are private businesses, not state run.

And heh, that bit about the Quakers - most of the Quakers I know in the US (about half of my family, for instance) would be really irked if anyone took away their right to buy a nice cocktail or three! But still, some of the liquor laws here can get pretty nutty - they are different in every state for one thing, and in Texas, some counties are completely ‘dry’ while others are completely ‘sloshed’. 😉 You should see the traffic jams on Friday nights on remote county roads with people making the haul to the ‘wet’ counties to stock up for the long, thirsty week to come!

My first reaction is one like Nepenthe’s, but then I thought about the potential loss of “conscience laws” in our own country that affect our own religion. As Catholics we want conscience exceptions so hospitals or pharmicists would not be forced to perform abortions or dispense contraceptives if they could not do so in good conscience.

Should someone be forced to allow dogs in his taxi if he cannot do so in good conscience?

It is a Catholic principle in fact that within the limits of the common good, no one can be forced to act contrary to his conscience. Do the instances in the OP harm the common good to the extent that they cannot be tolerated?

Bartenders are allowed to refuse service to anyone if they see fit.
They don’t even have to be clearly hazardous. No one has sued and won a case against a tavern or nightclub for refusing anyone service (a drink) even if they don’t appear to be drunk. I live in the US though.

Sure, that’s somewhat analogous. But not all abortions are done simply to remove an unwanted pregnancy, and certainly hormones are often prescribed for reasons that have nothing to do with contraception, even if that is an incidental effect, and quite a few medications that have nothing to do with contraception can dramatically affect sex drive and fertility, such as some anti-depressants. No doctor is required to perform any surgery they feel they cannot do in good conscience, but it is not always a simple matter there either. In such cases as the surgeon feels unable to make a clear or informed decision, they generally confer with other medics and perhaps ask someone who feels more comfortable with performing the procedure, or the patient, if they are able, finds another doctor.

On the other hand, it is not a pharmacist’s job to decide what should and should not be prescribed, but to follow the chain of command from the prescribing physician, knowledgeably and without error, to protect the patient from possible misuse, or catch mistakes in dosages, interactions and so forth. If they cannot accept that, then they should choose a different career, or perhaps go into pharmacological research rather than dispensation. I mean, there are some religions that do not believe in ANY medical treatment or prescribed medication - so what would, say, a Christian Science fringe extremist pharmacist do? Not be a pharmacist, that’s what.

Way off topic, but I wanted to enlarge a bit on your analogy. In the case of dogs in a cab, I can see why in some cases, for health and sanitary reasons, that might not be acceptable - but seeing-eye dogs are extremely intelligent, clean and highly trained, as well as absolutely vital to their master’s functioning, and such person is likely to be in a much harder spot than most if they cannot get the transportation they need. So yes, fining the cab driver was quite right, and if a cab driver can’t get over that mistaken prejudice, then he should take a different job. Training for such situations involving the handicapped should be required by law for people with a chauffeur/taxi license, whether the service is run privately or by the state.

And yes, agreed on the bartender/server part, since they are legally partly responsible for their customers’ consumption of an intoxicant. And here, pretty much all cab drivers realize that they are doing a very ethical thing by driving people who have overindulged to protect both the intoxicated person and anyone that might get hurt if they DID try to drive - and even provide that service for free in special circumstances and especially on certain holidays, like New year’s

If you killed your spouse today, and called up a few defense attorneys (not public defenders- even then you would have to qualify in the US), they don’t have to represent you just because you are in an “emergency” or have a “need”. Do they need a reason to refuse you? Well, let’s just say they can come up with one. 😉
The best one is you don’t have the ability to pay.
Are you going to say the lawyer should not get into that line of work unless he wants to “serve” all? She/He may dissagree with you.
As far as I know, cab rides that are “free” to drunks on holidays like New Years, are not out of pocket for the cab owner. You may want to check into that.

The first being the Muslim man who sued a supermarket because he had to handle alcohol.
drinking , selling alcohol are forbidden in Islam. So no Muslims should get involved in these. Even if a believer lost his case here , he will surely get reward from God because of his good intention & attempt.

see above.

Islam does not hate dogs . We are allowed to keep dogs for some specific reasons .
Can you believe it? Muslims are trying to have alcohol banned …
What’s wrong with it ? alcohol is the mother of many evils . It’s better if all can avoid alcohol. I read that in some Churches , they drink grape juice , not alcohol anymore.

Muslim Woman …
UK is not a muslim country , so muslims should keep the laws to themselves…

 Are you insinuating Holy Communion in the catholic church is an evil?

It’s a good thing that I don’t drink wine in church then. I drink the Most Precious Blood of Jesus.

Well, that would be good to stop people from getting drunk and harm the others, maybe also a good idea is to sell alcohol only in pharmacies, so that only religious people can have them for Holy Communion purposes.

… sell alcohol only in pharmacies, so that only religious people can have them for Holy Communion purposes.
people need to buy medicine to save lives from pharmacies . Now they will start selling something that kill human being ? If religious persons need to drink it , then it should be sold in their prayer places. Ad on alcohol should be banned as holy books are enough
for the religious persons , they don’t need to know about this harmful thing through media.

What you all are describing is pretty much what happened in prohibition years in America (Church’s had special exemptions). But, of course, organized crime made tons of money getting everyone alcohol anyway.

Exactly.

The reason that these prohibitions work in Islam is because they are enforced with death or very draconian measures, such as beatings.

Allah treats humans like mindless slaves. They cannot judge for themselves or choose right from wrong unless they are threatened with death.

As far as the cabbie goes, I do not feel sorry for him. Mohammed’s fear of dogs is not reason to discriminate against the blind.

Jesus (p) ordered in OT to destroy the whole city of idol worshipers. Many other punishments were alos sanctioned by Jesus (p). So , Jesus (p) treated humans like mindless slaves?
