Sorry in advance if there is already a thread on this. I looked and didn’t see one.

UKRAINIAN CATHOLIC CELEBRATION (LIVE)
The Divine Liturgy in honor of the centennial celebration of the arrival of the first Greek Catholic Bishop in America, live from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Philadelphia.

This would be interesting. I remember over a decade ago Mother Angelica saying she would like to have the mass in all the rites on EWTN. I’m not sure why, but I’ve never seen any in the decade (I’m sure length is part of the issue. Much of her audience wouldn’t appreciate it, but many I’ve seen would).

As the Ukranians are the second largest group in the Latin church, thise would be interesting to see.

Last year, I believe, they televised a Syro-Malankara divine liturgy.

EWTN has televised a Ruthenian Divine Liturgy at least twice, as well as (shortened) Paschal Vespers. Both DLs were celebrated by EWTN’s Ruthenian “regular”, Fr. Joseph Bertha. In one of the DLs Fr. Michael Sopoliga concelebrated.

Many would appreciate it and I think all those who would ought to let EWTN know so they might be encouraged to show more Eastern Liturgies in the future.

As I recall, Fr. Mitch Pacwa is a bi-ritual priest. I think he’s Byzantine, not Ukranian though.

He concelebrated the Syro-Malankar Hierarchical Divine Liturgy mentioned a few posts previously, and he also celebrates the Maronite rite. He also celebrates the Novus Ordo… so, does that make it tri-ritual?🙂

Fr. Mitch Pacwa, S.J., is a Jesuit and is, therefore, a Latin Rite priest who was granted bi-ritual faculties for the Maronites.

He speaks fluently about 12 languages, including Latin, Arabic, Hebrew, and Koine Greek. He has travelled in the Holy Land extensively.

Fr. Mitch used to be a Professor here at Loyola University-Chicago.

Ukrainian Catholics do not belong to the Latin Church.

Let me ask a question: Who is commemorated in the Great Litany - IOW, who is mentioned first among the hierarchs?
I am just going to go out on a limb and guess that if it is revealed to be the Pope of Rome you will say that then means they are Roman Catholics of the Ukrainian rite or some such.

If so, how tired.

If not, please forgive the presumption.

Either way, the contention has been debated how many times?

Ukranian is Byzantine.

I think he is maronite.
Ukrainians are Byzantines, but not all Byzantines are Ukrainian. Clear as mud? 😛

I have the possibility of going to this Liturgy, though I don’t know if I’ll be making it or not. It would be a once-in-a-lifetime experience, that’s for sure.

Well I had assumed that if you werent under the Latin Church you would be commemorating Cardinal Husar not the Pope in your Litanies. And if you didnt belong to the Latin church your last three bishops wouldnt have had to have Rome’s approval to retire and the last bishop to be consecrated in the U.S. was conducted by representatives of the Vatican.

This doesnt sound as if you dont belong to the Latin church does it?

And in what language is your canon law issued?

Maybe we could all write reference manifestos.

They could be posted as stickys.

Isa, Mark of E, we get it. We commemorate the Pope, we look to Rome for our leadership and have obedience there to.

You caught us. That is right. We are how you say we are.

Just plain tired.

Just plain sad that information on a Uk. DL on EWTN devolves into this. But that is the standard MO, par for the course here isn’t it?

Please do not let this thread become another Catholic vs. Orthodox thread. That wasn’t my intention.

Thanks.
