Um, did any CAF members watch "The Fosters" Monday night?

Guess what happened? Should faithful Catholics be that offended? IIRC, I was kissed by the local bishop when I was confirmed into the Church. (Keep in mind that I’m a heterosexual male.)

Everybody should be offended. That’s not going to happen, of course. Culture has already shifted tremendously on matters of sexuality. Just look at the success of Fifty Shades of Grey.

Wait, what?

Wait, what?
Well, the local bishop didn’t kiss me right on the lips. During the confirmation ceremony, he kissed me right before or just as he said, “Peace be with you.” IIRC, he kissed all of the confirmandi.

Okay, so it may have been some tradition, like the kiss of peace. Others here may know about that. I’m not sure I see a connection with the confirmation kiss and the gay teens’ kiss though.

Havard, under what circumstances would you not be offended by a male kissing another male onscreen? Also, do you find it ironic that The Fosters is shown on a cable channel that also has The 700 Club as part of its lineup?

Don’t watch that trash. As for 700 club, keeping the show on the station was part of the sale, or so i read.

I only watch Reba reruns on abc family and of course i saw the preview for that…

Any circumstance in which the same-sex kiss is non-sexual. There are plenty of examples of that. A kiss can be an expression of greeting, of familial/platonic affection, reconciliation, etc. It sounds like the example in this tv show was an expression of sexuality.

I’m glad someone brought this show up.

I first learned about the show last year as I walked through a mall located in middle, to upper-middle class suburb which is mostly conservative. The advert was one of those huge back-highlighted posters in bright yellow – no one could have missed it. I can’t remember if it showed the two lesbians on front, but something didn’t look right once I studied it. I remember whipping out my phone and searching it on wikipedia to learn that it was about a family headed by two lesbians in an interracial relationship. Talk about killing two birds with one stone. I wouldn’t be surprised if the creators wanted to intertwine the Civil Rights Era and the current narrative of “gays are the new blacks”/“gay ‘rights’ are the Civil Rights of our time.”
