Is the UN Declaration of Human Rights against or consistant with Catholic social teachings? Does anyone know of any human rights organizations that are consistant with Catholic teachings?

I read nothing contrary to Catholic teaching nor much that has not been interpreted to be covered by the U.S. Bill of Rights, the Constitution and its amendments.

Not much is really objectionable, other than at the end:

Article 29-(3) states:
These rights and freedoms may in no case be exercised contrary to the purposes and principles of the United Nations.

It is basically an “escape clause” that can be used to nullify “rights” listed throughout the document at the whim of UN bureaucrats.

Given the socialist “purposes & principles” advocated elsewhere in UN documentation, this escape clause makes this “Declaration of Rights” little more than window dressing.
