UN publishes IHEU statement on child abuse and the Holy See

As many of you know all Hell has broken loose over sexual abuse of children in Ireland and some of the Bishops there have gone to the Vatican to tender their resignations.

This is a World wide problem in the Roman Catholic Church. In my country, Australia it is very bad. Some priests are in prision over it.

This item need to be read by All Roman Catholics.

UN publishes IHEU statement on child abuse and the Holy See
The UN Human Rights Council today published a written statement by IHEU on the role of the Holy See in the child abuse scandals that rocked the Catholic Church in recent years, and its failure to honour its obligations under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Commenting on the report, Roy Brown, IHEU Main Representative at the UN Geneva said: “The Holy See has been heavily implicated for decades in covering up cases of child abuse carried our by its clergy and religious orders, in obstructing justice, and in failing to deal appropriately with abusers. Yet for too long it has been given a free ride by the international community because of its presumed moral leadership. Our report is the first to bring the issue to the attention of the Council. We shall be referring to our report in the plenary of the Human Rights Council next week.”

It figures. The UN is a corrupt organization. Even Our Lady said it was evil.

This is very interesting. But a bit redundant. The Church, in the US anyway, has taken a number of steps to turn the tide on this. Hopefully other countries are following suit. I didn’t read in this thing where children are now being educated about sex abuse as they take catechism classes and that all church workers and volunteers need to have background checks done, etc. Or maybe that is just in my archdiocese?

In a more sarcastic flavor, I suppose the UN needs to distract away from their abysmal failure to curtail nuclear weaponry development in rogue countries? Go for it! Pick the tiniest country in existence. Makes the job more manageable.

The U.N.'s own record on abuse being so ‘sterling’ itself.
Where was the U.N.'s in the genocide in Rwanda? Lots of children being not only abused but killed.
What’s the U.N.‘s solution to world evil everywhere? Contracept. You don’t have to wait until a child is born to start abusing him/her–you can kill him or her right in the womb and you can make the mother a double victim, complicit in the death of her child, put her right back to where she can be used and abused like some thing, and contracept yet again! Why bother to go to the root of why women (and children) are abused when you can just ‘get rid of any problems’ and call yourselves the champions of womens’ rights?

Nobody is arguing that abuse is wrong, wrong, wrong. And for any criminal activity involved, those involved should be punished to the full extent of the law. Absolutely agree.

But tell me, when are you going to go after the teachers (whose rate of abuse of children is greater than that of the Catholic Church/priests?) When are you going after the fathers who abuse their children (whose rate of abuse is even greater)? Pity the poor child who is abused. . .and the abuser was one of the 98% who wasn’t a priest. No money and no tears for that child, because we can’t blame that Catholic Church for it.
