A good balance of estrogen vs. testosterone is X vs. Sever.

Lucy Liu and Antonio Banderas set off more explosions and send more bullets flying than any film I’ve ever seen. It was insane. Plenty of martial arts too.

One of my favorite movies of all times is the 1980’s Excalibur

One I didn’t see mentioned is Escape from New York

Casino Royale is outstanding!

Many, many, MANY of the movies already mentioned are on my list of great movies. 🙂
 
The chase scene from Bullitt is awesome.

Commando is one of my favorites.
 
Lots of good action films here. Nothing wrong with that.

Are there good guy films outside the action/adventure genre? I offer a few:

In the Company of Men–probably the most acerbic, most horrible setup leading to an ending that is as gut-kicking as can be… a great “anti-morality” tale. Mature viewing required.

Kiss Me Deadly–in one book I’ve read, it states that you are technically not a man until you’ve seen this one. I wholeheartedly agree.

Glengarry Glen Ross and House of Games - nobody owns masculine dialogue like David Mamet. (I’d put The Verdict in here, except I hate that movie).

Speaking of Charles Bronson we cant leave out the “Death Wish” movies. And the first “Letahl Weapon”(which by the thrid movie had turned into a “chick flick”
 
There was a movie last summer that was a parody of action flicks: “Shoot 'Em Up”, starring Clive Owen, Paul Giamatti, and Monica Bellucci. You can’t talk guy flicks without mentioning that! The scene that will always stick with me is when the hero jumps out of an airplane followed by dozens of hit men, all of whom he kills in imaginative ways on the way down. After he lands, he limps off to safety across a field that is littered with the bodies of the men he killed on the way down! The first guy flick I’ve seen where someone actually said, Hey, what happened to all the people that got killed during that last scene?

That, and Starship Trooper.
 
One movie not mentioned yet is Above the Law with Steven Seagal. Although violent, part of the plot centers around the heroic actions of priests and nuns.

Side note: the church in the movie is, in real life, St. Mary of the Angels parish in Chicago; it was filmed there while it was closed and slated for demolition; later, it was entrusted to Opus Dei and has been greatly renovated.
 
I loved the first three Die Hard films: what happens to sneering trash when they run across a one-man demolition team.

The last one was a little hard to take, but still better than most of the films out there.

Do Jackie Chan movies count?

Perhaps, but having read the book, I guarantee that if you were to attach a turbine to Heinlein’s corpse the world would never run short of electricity.

LOL! 🙂 I thought it was an acceptable adaptation, capturing the essence of a culture driven by the military. The director (Paul Verhoeven) remembers watching air battles over Holland during WW2, and integrated a lot of that into the film.

He still grossly missed the point. The book was about the moral responsibilities of the soldier and the citizen, not about mixed-sex group showers and officers shooting their own men.

My husband would add Tombstone and Blazing Saddles to that mix. Could never see what he saw in those flicks.🤷
