The husband of a friend of mine has brain damage. The doctors thought he developed fluid on his brain, which was causing his symptoms to progress, including being violent.
We’ve all been praying hard that his symptoms were due to fluid on his brain, which could be drained, making his symptoms lessen.

Well, the neurosurgeon says there is no fluid on his brain and this is just a progression of his brain damage.

Why does God fail to answer so many prayers?

Is this really a ‘failure to answer prayers’? Or, rather, is it simply that ya’ll aren’t getting the specific result you want?

In other words, who ever said that, by praying, we obligate God to do what we ask?

The Bible says “ask and you shall receive.”

Read a bit further: “If you then, who are wicked, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good things to those who ask him.”

Perhaps the ‘good thing’ that God wishes to give your friend’s husband isn’t ‘fluid on the brain’, but rather, God has some other ‘good thing’ in mind. 🤷

What could the reason be that He says no, when the unanswered prayer leads to such horrible consequences?

First of all, it’s not ‘unanswered’, but rather, ‘not granted’. What if the greatest good is not achieved by granting the prayer? What if God’s plan is for some other good?

In my little, mortal mind I cant see what good can come from this situation or other serious situations where prayer goes unanswered. I know we don’t know the mind of God and cant forsee the future, but theres so much bad in the world and I can’t imagine what good can come of it…

For instance, all the prayers to stop terrorism and yet it sontinues. What good do you suppose God can be planning to allow this?
 
In the end of things, life isn’t a test on how well God has done, if he gets an A or a fail. Life is a test on how well we have done. We will answer for our choices at the end of our life, not God answering to us how he did.

The prayer that gains great merit is ‘Thy will be done’. It is the wisest prayer because that means there would not be evil in this world if God’s will was done.

My heart goes out to the family, and to you as you wrestle with this. There are many challenges in this life and all we can do is sit before a crucifix sometimes.
 
Another example is my daughters former boyfriend has a baby with a rare cancer. Tomorrow hes having an open lung biopsy and a bone marrow biopsy, plus a port placement for chemo.
What good is prayer? He’s already sick and i doubt he’ll miraculously get well while i continue to pray.

Sometimes i dontveven know what to pray FOR.

When we pray we leave it up to God decide what is good for the person especially for his spiritual needs rather than health or material needs.

If I remember it correctly, the story about St. John Bosco. One day a blind child came to seek his intercession so that she would be cure of her blindness. St. John Bosco said yes God can cure your blindness but the salvation of your soul could be compromised. So the child agreed that she would trade the joy of seeing here on earth in exchange for the everlasting happiness in Heaven. 👍
 
A prayer and a meditation that I believe cannot go “unanswered” and are not viewing a personal god as a vending machine. I offer them to you and yours in your time of want.

God’s will. “…Thy will be done…”

I’ve yet to see anything in the Bible that says we’ll be granted whatever we pray for. Each instance of “answered” pray has conditions.

And has been mentioned - there are also “no,” “not yet,” and “I have something better in mind for you.”

Gods will will be done whether we pray or not. So whats the point of praying anyway?
