God does not want you to be self loathing. God makes no mistakes with people. Its people who make mistakes. Why would He want you to start loathing Him, because you are created in the image of God are you not?
Also you say that you dont always feel that he is close by your side. Well Kendy, why are you constantly looking for God to be by your side. You are meant to be living the life that He has given to you. Your life is your talent (remember the parable of the talents-and the ones who increased the talents and one who hid it not to lose it) which one are you? are you hiding your talent in order not to make a mistake and have to ask forgiveness of God. Thats why we have confession. and perhaps thats where pride might come in. You seem to be hiding your talent and doing no increase with it.
You give glory to God by living a beautiful life and returning it to Him with increase and not terified.
Don’t always worry about the situation God can see the whole, let Him see to it. You begin and live a life pleasing to him and you.
Grace Angel.
There’s a story missing from that parable about the talents. What about the servant who took the talent and came back with debt? What does the master say to that? Does God richly gives wisdom to those who ask him, like James says? How about prudence and self-control?

Good morning Kendy (Morning in Australia)
I am sorry to say this Kendy but you are beginning to sound “scrupulous” Dont feed dscrupulosity it becomes a dreadful condition.
Everything with love and grace (and not with anxiety and fear) leads to right decision, and even when a wrong decision is made, there is the knowledge that I am a child of God and He loves me and has prepared the way for forgiveness. I am a mother of four children when my children mess up, I may be disappointed but I Always, Always, Always, forgive them no matter what. If I as a human person (me) can and does this, how much more does God do same and much much better.
A prudent person, makes good and bad decisions, just like everyone else. Self control can be a blessing or it can become a curse, because it can and at times does lead to scrupulosity.
I am out for the day I think, so see ya. Have a good one.

It could be that God doesn’t want to give you what it is that you want. It could be that he wants you to work very hard for it, and maybe with his grace and your work you will see your prayer answered.

Kendy,

Sometimes the Lord wants us to have an increase in the virtue of faith and he uses certain ways to bring that about.

One way is by seeming to be far away from you and ignoring you; when really He is quite close and loving you very much.

We may have a particular idea of why we want a certain prayer to be answered, because in our reasoning mind we see that it is a good request and we would benefit spiritually from it.

But, the Lord sees the whole picture and He knows everything about us, and sometimes He makes us wait for good reasons. And those reasons are always for our benefit.

I like to recall St. Therese of Lisieux who said to Jesus that He could use her like a little ball and play with her sometimes, and sometimes just leave her in a corner. She even mentioned being “pierced” by Him if that would please Him.

So, I pray that you use this as an opportunity to grow in faith.
Another thought is that you can ask Him why he is putting off answering you. Perhaps He will reveal the reason to you.

Blessings to you,

Dorothy

Maybe He is trying to teach you trust and complete faith. A great way for someone to increase in their faith is for God to, in a way, remove the physical aspects of ones relationship with him. In my opinion, it sounds like this could be a “Dark Night of the Soul” that you are going through.

“During the ‘dark night’, one who has developed a strong prayer life and consistent devotion to God suddenly finds traditional prayer extremely difficult and unrewarding for an extended period of time. The person may feel as though God has suddenly abandoned them, or that their prayer life has collapsed.”-Wiki

God knows what you need. My advice would be to alter your prayer so that it is more like what Jesus prayed before he was taken away to be crucified:

“Abba, Father, all things are possible to you. Take this cup away from me, but not what I will but what you will.”-Mark 13:46

Just trust in God. Keep praising him and rejoicing in His love. You know that God does not abandon those who seek Him. If it is the ‘Dark Night’ that you are going through, then rejoice in that, because when you come out of it, you will find yourself in a much more strong and intimate bond with our Lord. The dark night is really such a wonderful thing. It is one of the ways God calls you to be closer to Him, so rejoice that the Lord may be calling you to such a deep relationship with Him. My prayers are with you!

In the words of Mother Theresa:

God did not call me to be successful.
God called me to be faithful.

Is it possible that you are just asking for the wrong thing. You are not being ignored, but amybe now isn’t the right time for your prayer to be answered.

I know if I get too focused on how I think something should be answered I tend to miss the real answer.

Thanks evevryone for all your advice. I am feeling a little better today.

Only a year and a half… I have a few items that have been in the works for over 25 years. (the conversion of my wife.) I recently had a prayer answered after 3 years… God’s time is not the same as ours. Some things require a lot of patience. Some conversion take place in the last instant. Some requests happen as the very last moment.

Keep asking, Jesus tells us to have a little faith (it can move mountains), believe as if it has already happen and it will come to pass. It’s very difficult to be patient indefinitely, but that is His promise. I believe it. I just kept asking…
