I’m sorry to interrupt and I’m sure this is in a previous answer somewhere, but I’m in an urgent situation where I need to make a decision soon. I read somewhere that sometimes mental illness is misdiagnosed and that the problem is actually evil spirits that have entered the soul by one’s own actions or against one’s will, perhaps as a child. I have had problems for as long as I can remember, there are too many to get into. I was finally clinically diagnosed 5 years ago and have yet to find anything that helps. I’ve even tried electro convulsive therapy. I’ve read several books like The Imitation of Christ and The Imitation of Mary and they make perfect sense. While mental illness is real, all signs lead me to believe that the root of MY problem is a lack of trust in God. That’s the short version, it’s obviously more complex than that. The problem is, I know that complete submission to God’s will takes time. I understand everything I’ve read, but I feel there is an obstacle or obstacles blocking me from accomplishing this. Last night, I woke up at 2 a.m., then at 3 a.m., I prayed the Chaplet and the Rosary. While praying, I felt a powerful urge to explore a deliverance and/or intergenerational healing through a priest. I know both are controversial and/or perhaps against what the Cathlic Church. I’ve read about deliverance and several of the things that can allegedly cause evil spirits to enter the soul have occured in my life, one of them as a child. So my question is, do I pursue this angle seriously or not? I understand the belief that through the sacraments and a strong spiritual life, we should not have to fear evil (but of course, be aware of it). And AAAARRRRGGGGHHHHHH! BTW, my wife wants a divorce and so the urgency is that I have to decide on what the right thing to do for my marriage is but I feel this (my need to trust God) needs to be addressed first because I have actually seen good (I’ve come closer to God) come from our 2-month separation (her choice, not mine) and want to be guided by my faith in all my future decisions. The divorce is from the years of her dealing with my illness and I fully understand her feelings. I do not want a divorce AT ALL, I have not abused her physically, but emotionally, and not on purpose ever. I believe we can resolve the problems but she has flat out given up, last time, fed up! I hope I don’t get kicked off for my long rambling question…
