The article states that this parish was apparently already in a bad way financially and looking to get rid of employees before this happened. Now the epidemic came along so it’s a good excuse, and they probably figure that the employees can get helped through the coronavirus benefits even though the parish apparently hasn’t even been paying into unemployment.
It’s disturbing to me that a parish was managing its employment of a person who has had the same career for 41 years and is the widowed mom of two special needs kids, in this way to begin with.
