I am not uncomfortable confessing to a particular priest, but rather to all of them. Spilling my sins to a fellow person is very uncomfortable for me. What should I do?
If I’m understanding your question, it’s not that you’re uncomfortable with an individual priest, but that you’re uncomfortable confessing to any priest?
If so, I think the answer is, unfortunately, “get over it.” Going into a small room and telling someone your dirty secrets is an inherently awkward thing, and there’s really no way around it. I always think of the awkwardness as part of my penance.
You’re not spilling your sins to another person; you are whispering into the ear of Christ. And I promise you, as soon as you walk out of that confessional, your sins have been forgotten…What an amazing gift to hear the words, “your sins have been forgiven”!!!
It is by nature uncomfortable. It should be. Nobody likes to admit their faults, but admitting them, as humiliating as it is, is the essential first step in the process.
