I am just currious when they bring down the host’s for consencration they are big becuase its before the right of fraction where we sing the Angus Dei . but where do the unconsencrated hosts reside in the church. ( i know the consencrated ones are in the tabernancle)

Normally, it’s in a cabinet in the sacristy.
Actually; when I was sacristan I used to keep the greater amount of them in the Rectory freezer. The Trappist monks 50 miles away would deliver them every month to various parishes in the archdiocese. They came in clear plastic bags of 500 hosts. They now come stacked sideways in clear plastic trays to prevent breakage. I would usually put them away in additional freezer bags to prevent frost and take out what was necessary for Masses every week in the sacristy.

They live in the freezer and come out to the Sacristy for a little while to thaw.

They are in a refrigerator in the sacristy. The small ones are packaged 100 to a sleeve.

My Parish just keeps them in a cupboard. I don’t know who makes them, but they’re bought in such quantities that there barely is any left over.

When I was a Sacristan, I just kept the big plastic bags in a metal cabinet. But that was in Denver, where it’s generally cool and very very dry.

As noted by people here, it depends how much is kept by the parish, how much is used, and how close the parish is to its supplier. Parishes closer to a supplier might have a low amount of bread and buy as needed just to have them fresh. Those farther from a supplier will freeze the bread where they can last months.

We keep them in a plastic food box in a cupboard in the sacristy. Since we are a large church, we buy in bulk and get through huge quantities of them. They come packed in polythene bags in cardboard cartons.

I’ve never heard of keeping them in a refrigerator - perhaps American hosts are made differently. The type we use will keep for months in an airtight container at normal temperatures.

We don’t keep them in a refrigerator. Only the low gluten hosts are kept in a freezer.

this is Texas, unless they are kept in the refrigerator during most months, except the winter, they will mold and spoil quickly, as will most bread products. The wine is also refrigerated. We order so they are shipped few weeks or so in the quantity we need. They come in a shrink-wrapped plastic canister. In the warmer months priest are careful not to consecrate too many hosts, so there are just enough for the sick and communion services and all are distributed within a week or so.
