I am actually familiar with Catholicism for Dummies and have read a lot of books on Catholicism including listening to debates. This is how I came to realize that I did not believe the Catholic faith.
TBH if I didn’t continue to learn about the Roman Catholicism I probably would consider myself Catholic today.

Chances are without divine revelation I will probably never accept the Catholic faith as (I presume) you do.
So can you give one example of a Catholic belief that you misunderstood at the time of your conversion, that you now understand and realize you do not believe?

Whisper,

I don’t think the issue is that you still don’t know what the Catholic church believes. You really owe it to yourself to really learn and understand what the Church believes before giving up.
Does the Catholic Church believe that the office of the pope existed with the start of the church?

Your understanding of grace. The RCC as the One, True, Church. Communion actually being Jesus. etc

Confining yourself to books ABOUT Catholicism (written by who, I wonder) does not compare with reading the actual Catechism, and the Church documents and scripture to which it refers. No wonder you don’t understand.

I have read the CCC and Catholic documents. I have also watched EWTN.

Of course it does. The papal office was first occupied by Peter (Kepha - Rock). the one who was given the keys by Christ. Now this is not to say that the office has not evolved over the centuries…

That said, even if one wishes to say that the office of the “pope” did not exist (as we understand it today), the offices of leadership - bishops - clear up to patriarchs existed. Just look at the structures of the two ancient Churches (the RC and the EO). Compare these structures to what we find (in seed form) in the Scriptures…the RC and the EO are the most biblical of Churches

+1

True, they don’t compare.

You were the one that just recommend Catholicism for Dummies???

I have read the CCC and Catholic documents.
Every word of every page and every reference in every footnote? Of all of them? More than once?

I certainly wouldn’t read a history or science textbook just once and claim to know much if anything about its contents.

And this is far more important to understand, since you need to know what you’re rejecting, and it’s your immortal soul rather than your academic reputation or a few marks in an exam at stake.

I have not read it like a novel, but it is not intended to be read like a novel (right?)

You can bring up a section of the CCC if you, and we can discuss it.

It would probably be better for you to suggest a section

Actually - the bottom line on this whole matter is that you do not accept that the Catholic (Universal) Church is the Church established by Christ in the NT.

You do not accept that Christ established one, unified visible and authoritative Church.

Is that an accurate statement?

It isn’t read in the same way as a novel, no - a novel is a work of fiction. The CCC is by way of being an academic text. But it needs to be read as thoroughly (or at least those sections you disagree with) as any novel would be by one studying it. Which certainly means more than once! Those parts you disagree with, in fact, you should know very well indeed, if you want your disagreement to be taken seriously.

Since you are the one rejecting the CCC it is indeed for you to show what it is about it that you disagree with and explain why. Start with the one section or paragraph you most have problems with if that helps.

1993 Justification establishes cooperation between God’s grace and man’s freedom. On man’s part it is expressed by the assent of faith to the Word of God, which invites him to conversion, and in the cooperation of charity with the prompting of the Holy Spirit who precedes and preserves his assent:

When God touches man’s heart through the illumination of the Holy Spirit, man himself is not inactive while receiving that inspiration, since he could reject it; and yet, without God’s grace, he cannot by his own free will move himself toward justice in God’s sight.

I don’t reject all of the CCC. When did I say I did?
