In an effort to more fully understand this matter I determined to look into the Greek to see what light it could shed on the matter.

It appears that the term most commonly used in the NT that is translated as “grace” is:
Charis (Pronounced = khar’-ece)
The meaning as given in Strongs concordance (a non-Catholic source) is this:
1 ) grace
a) that which affords joy, pleasure, delight, sweetness, charm, loveliness: grace of speech

1. good will, loving-kindness, favor
   a) of the merciful kindness by which God, exerting his holy influence upon souls, turns them to Christ, keeps, strengthens, increases them in Christian faith, knowledge, affection, and kindles them to the exercise of the Christian virtues
2. what is due to grace
   a) the spiritual condition of one governed by the power of divine grace
   b) the token or proof of grace, benefit
   1. a gift of grace
      2) benefit, bounty
3. thanks, (for benefits, services, favours), recompense, reward

Distilling this down in a theological sense, it appears that “grace” is the “favor of God” that is, to be in grace is to be in God’s favor.
Naturally, being in “favor” with one who we love means we do all we can to remain in their favor. We seek to grow closer, we seek to promote them to others, we seek to do all that they ask of us. This is a very deep and abiding relationship of LOVE.
So the more we seek to respond to God’s loving favor toward us (grace) the more open we become to him and to others around us…Which gets back to what I was expressing in my post above. that grace is, in a sense, a pathway for the flow of love.
