Unfortunately, I have plans to abandon this forum. I am still distraught over what happened within one of my threads several weeks ago. I will not go into further detail, but I can, however, make the following clear:

If I make a new thread, I start to attract trolls or just people who ramble on and on, like they’re trying to write a poorly-translated Tolstoy novel. Too much information that is irrelevant to the topic, as if someone is trying to derail it Granted, this is the internet, but out of all the forums where I’ve been a member of, this one has been an anomalous oddity.

I hate to hate say this, but I am now open to the possibility that continuing a presence here will cause more harm than good.

Of course, what do I have to lose? Absolutely nothing. Just because I leave this forum, does not mean I will abandon the greatest bulwark of Western Civilization: Roman Catholicism.

If anyone here has reasons for someone like myself to continue posting here, feel free to elaborate. Regardless, a prayer or two would help.

So sorry to hear that. People are just, well, people. CAF is simply a sampling of society at large. Some are very judgmental, others are trolls, others troublemakers, yet others are so nice that you wish they were your “real-life-friend” who lives two houses over. You have to do what is best for you and brings you peace.

Am praying for your intentions. Although it is my hope you are healthy and never need them, also praying for any Medical Doctors that may be seen in the future for it is nice to have already prayed for them (Our Lord knows who they are even if not born yet:wink:).

Act of Hope and Confidence in God
Saint Claude de la Colombiere
:signofcross:
My God,
I believe most firmly that You watch over all who hope in You,
and that we can want for nothing when we rely upon You in all things.
Therefore I am resolved for the future…to cast all my cares upon You.
People may deprive me of worldly goods and status.
Sickness may take from me my strength and the means of serving You.
I may even jeopardize our relationship by sin, but my trust shall never leave me.
I will preserve it to the last moment of my life, and the powers of hell shall seek
…… in vain to grab it from me.
Let others seek happiness in their wealth and in their talents.
Let them trust in the purity of their lives,
the severity of their mortifications,
in the number of their good works,
the enthusiasm of their prayers,
as for me, my Rock and my Refuge, my confidence in you fills me with hope.
For You, my Divine Protector, alone have settled me in hope.
“This confidence can never be vain. No one, who has hoped in God, has
…… ever been confounded.”
I am assured, therefore, of my eternal happiness,
…… for I firmly hope in it and all my hope is in You.
“In You, O loving God, have I hoped: let me never be confounded.”
I know too well that I am weak and changeable. I know the power of
…… temptation against the strongest virtue.
I have seen stars fall and foundations of my world crack;
…… these things do not alarm me.
While I hope in You, I am sheltered from all misfortune,
…… and I am sure that my trust shall endure,
…… for I rely upon You to sustain this unfailing hope.
Finally, I know that my confidence cannot exceed Your generosity, and that I
…… shall never receive less than I have hoped for from You.
Therefore I hope that You will sustain me against my evil inclinations,
…… that You will protect me against the deceitful attacks of the evil one,
…… and that You will cause my weakness to triumph over every hostile force.
I hope that You will never cease to love me and that I shall love You unceasingly.
“In You, O loving God, have I hoped: let me never be confounded.”

St. Claude de la Colombiere, pray for us!

Prayer for Medical Doctors
O merciful Father,
Who have wonderfully fashioned man in Your own image,
and have made his body to be a temple of the Holy Spirit,
sanctify, we pray You, our doctors and nurses and all those whom you have called to
…study and practice the arts of healing the sick and the prevention of disease and pain.
Strengthen them in body and soul,
and bless their work,
that they may give comfort to those for whose salvation Your Son became Man,
lived on this earth, healed the sick,
and suffered and died on the Cross.
Amen.

Apology and Thanksgiving Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Creator of all and source of all goodness and love,
please look kindly upon us,
as we ask for forgiveness for not giving You thanks.
Please receive our heartfelt apology for the lack of gratitude.
Remind us at all times that You are always worthy of our thanks.

Thank You, Heavenly Father,
for all the graces and blessings
You have bestowed upon us:
our faith and religious heritage;
the Priests who bring us the Sacraments;
our life, food and shelter;
our health, the love we have for one another;
our Police Officers and Firefighters who keep us safe;
our Soldiers and Veterans who fight and fought for our Country;
our family and friends.
Thank You for the people You so generously send us;
…everything You grant us
…and of which we are not even aware.
Dear Father, in Your infinite generosity, please grant us the grace of having
…less “give me” and more gratitude throughout the coming
…years so that we may be aware that anything from You is good
…for You turn the “bad” into blessings for us.
Please Lord, grant us the grace of not forgetting that we can thank You
…over and over again for the same gift – and if we
…forget, may our Guardian Angel remind us.
Thank You, Lord.
I Love You, Lord.
Amen… …by Luz María

Taking a break from it might help. When you come back, be cool.:cool:

I have had an account on here since 2011, but have taken 2 or 3 pronlonged breaks…I logged in recently (within the last month) after having not been on here since 2014. I do understand your frustration…trolls and overly legalistic Catholics can really start to stress me out. When I start feeling cynical about my faith rather than feeling my faith life is enriched, time for a break.

Praying for you. Whatever you decide, don’t stop praying.

God Bless You.

I took a 6month “technology fast” and it was THE BEST THING that I have every done. The first week was difficult but I soon got used to not checking my phone every 5 minutes. Good for the mind and soul. I encourage you to take a break or limit internet usage to “weekends only”.

I’m a forum software developer and have been using forums almost daily since they first arrived on the scene in the 90’s, and can report to you that the symptoms you describe couldn’t possibly be more common. As are, um, well, “I’m leaving the forum” threads. It’s simply the nature of forums, for the better and the worse.

A possible solution might be for you to open your own blog (or forum) where you control the content. You’ll likely have far fewer people to chat with, but you could then craft whatever kind of experience works best for you.

Unless you elaborate on what you’re saying, as well as providing examples, no one can offer advice. Anyone posting on any board will face responses that are not positive.

Never understood the need to proclaim one’s intention of leaving a forum. If you don’t like it, then don’t participate. Not trying to be rude but its not that big of a deal.

Unfortunately, this seems to be true when we post on the internet. 😦

There is always wisdom in re-evaluating what we are doing and why we are doing it. Should you leave? Should you go? I bet a serious and prayerful look at those questions would yield both pros and cons.

Do you want to stay? Do you want people here to ask you to stay? Are you feeling hurt and wounded? Insecure and uncertain? If the answers to those questions are “yes” than perhaps you need to take a look and see how sensitive you are to feedback, criticism, trolling, etc.

Perhaps God is giving you the grace to show you something that can help you grow? 🙂

Just some things to think about. This is the internet, and social media is a pretty messy place. CAF mods do their best to make sure that the forums are a safe place, room for diverse opinions, but with charity.

Blessings. 🙂

Do what makes you happy, and don’t stress over people online who have no affect on your life whatsoever. If you want to stay, stay but don’t let words on a screen creep under your skin. The internet is a place where over 3 billion people log on and make fools of themselves. 😃

Besides taking a break, there is an “ignore” feature where you can see which specific offenders are and block them. Later, you can unignore the person/people should you change you mind, or read specific posts, as well, only if you want to. I’ve found that a lot of the problems are the same people over and over. It’s all a matter of weeding out the wheat from the chaff! 🙂

The “ignore” feature is the only way to do CAF.

I will also pray for you, whatever you decide.

Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil, may God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O’ Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God thrust into Hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

For Help in Trials

Most holy apostle St. Jude, faithful servant and friend of Jesus, the name of the traitor who delivered your beloved Master into the hands of His enemies has caused you to be forgotten by many. But the Church honors and invokes you universally as the patron of hopeless cases–of things despaired of. Pray for me who feels so hopeless. Make use, I implore you, of that particular privilege accorded to you of bringing visible and speedy help where help is almost despaired of. Come to my assistance in this great need, that I may receive the consolations and succor of heaven in all my necessities, tribulations and sufferings, in particular (TheWiseMan), and that I may bless God with you and all the elect throughout eternity. I promise you, O Blessed St. Jude, to be ever mindful of this great favor, and I will never cease to honor you as my special and powerful patron, and to do all in my power to encourage devotion to you. Amen.

I agree, with both parts…

And in the same way, I’m not trying to be rude, but this is the same as the typical Facebook cry that they are going to quit Facebook.

So I’m sorry that people don’t agree with you, and don’t do everything the same way you do, that’s just part of being in the world…

May God Bless you wherever you end up…

For those who think “I am thinking about leaving the forum” threads are pointless, it is not like CAF has a survey or something that asks people why they have left. While some of the why I’m leaving threads I’ve seen have been carried out in a manner that was very immature of the OP, we could use them to reevualate our community and make it better. I have not started a thread other than a prayer thread in ages because of the bullying I’ve experienced by some of the more cliquish and well-established members of the forum. In fact, in one of the I’m leaving threads I’ve seen, one of th bullies was taunting the OP in it and it still angers me thinking of it to this day. These forums can bring people closer to God, but, it has driven people away as well.

From the thread the OP is referencing, some of the criticism was based on an inaccurate perception. I think it would have been better if people asked for further clarification if they did not have a good idea of what the OP had originally written. That way, you would be less likely to offend someone by jumping to the wrong conclusion.

Anyway OP, you have new ideas that is very unlike what people are used to. So, try not to take it too hard when your intentions fly over people’s heads. I’ve had other posters miss the point of my posts too. If they still aren’t getting it after a reply or two, I’d just leave it.

Good luck with everything.
