In my state, there are laws about parents furnishing minors with alcohol. However I never knew about those until now.
I know that some parents give their kids a sip or two of wine or whatever alcoholic beverage they are enjoying to let their teen or young adult try it. Some may even give them a small glass once they are older.
Is this sinful as technically, you’re going against the law? In a way, the parent can be teaching about responsible drinking by setting an example but also showing the teen that at their age they can only have a bit or can only have it with permission and supervision. However, the parent can also be breaking the law. Apparently there are fines in my state for that sort of thing if the law finds out you gave your child alcohol. I’m not sure how much alcohol constitutes as “furnishing the minor with alcohol” though.

I don’t think so.

If the child is your own, you can give them alcohol if you see fit, whether in the home or at a restaurant. The problem comes when you start giving kids who aren’t yours booze.

I think a sip is fine. I know my parents giving me a small sip when I was a teen was what convinced me I hated the stuff! Better than trying it first among my peers in an irresponsible environment.

The laws vary from state to state. Look up the law for your state.

In Massachusetts (my state), for example, a minor may consume alcohol if it is provided by a parent or grandparent on private premises.

Even so, there are good reasons to avoid it.

Does your state law venture an opinion on alcohol furnished to a minor in the course of a religious service?

How different was my experience when my family and I were in Rome in 2001. We stayed at a convent who served us breakfast and dinner. I remember that they had a bottle of wine on the table for dinner. And two of my children were under age.

Much freer there than here.

The French, the Germans, the Irish should all be arrested? Wait! Alcohol is a lot better than a lot of Europan drinking water!

And if I remember correctly, in Germany a bottle of beer was as cheap if not cheaper than a bottle of water. Prost!🍺

Having one of these now 😉🍻

I’m not sure but I may have had an Alaskan at one point in my life. In any case have one for me!🍺

Yeah, I mean otherwise it encourages alcoholism a bit. It shouldn’t be cheaper to buy alcohol than water.

In modern America the real question is whether you can share pot with your kids 😛

That’s protected by the US Constitution.

Back during Prohibition, churches that required wine for communion were registered and authorized to buy sacramental wine.

Ditto for registered Jewish families who could buy a set quantity wine for their seders.

Several synagogues in major cities really enjoyed an increase in their registered membership during the 1920’s.

Only if you buy crappy beer and high class water 🙂
But yes, it’s far more relaxed here and I like it.
