I heard that when minors are in a state of mortal sin, they don’t need to go to confession and their sins are pardoned when they obey their parents.
This simply means that honoring your father helps to atone for the temporal punishment due to sins.He who honors his father atones for sins -Sirach 3:3
I have a study Bible and in the little margin thing it says this means that this line means that through honoring their father the sins of children are pardoned.
What does this mean?
Like every few lines in the Bible is another way to get pardoned for your sins. How come Catholics only have two ways?
If you made your First Communion you would have had to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation prior to that. Now why would the Church require this Sacrament of Reconciliation of such children as young as seven years old? The Church recognizes the age of consent as being seven. This means that at that age a child should be able to discern right from wrong. My guess would be that almost all seven year olds would not be in the state of mortal sin mainly because of the lack of knowledge of gravity and full consent. Now I teach junior high religious education and in our discussions I find that there is indeed the opportunity for one to commit mortal sin at that age. So while at the age of seven the Church implements a good foundation, as children grow the need becomes more apparent. Read John 20:20-23 to see where Jesus on the night of His resurrection gives the authority to His Church to forgive sins. Also reference the Catechism of the Catholic Church for more on the Sacrament of Reconciliation. It is a beautiful way to receive grace and every Catholic should utilize this gift. God Bless You.I heard that when minors are in a state of mortal sin, they don’t need to go to confession and their sins are pardoned when they obey their parents.
