Maybe my point is this:

It’s great that we can sit here and discuss this issue and how it applies to real life. This is an important learning tool and it’s why we come here.

It’s also nice that we get to sit back and call out judgements against people who have to face this problem on a daily basis.

No, sin cannot be condoned…but that does not mean we should not consider the very reality of it and the fact that we live in a sinful world run by sinful humans such as ourselves. We all face our challenges and bear our crosses.

Those officers who work undercover theoretically lying as we’ve discussed are just as human as we are. Some of them are Catholic and struggle with the work they do every day and struggle to do their best to try to make the physical world a better place for everyone. They give up their lives quite literally to uphold the ideals we all hold dear, all so we can sit here and talk about what liars and sinners they are because they do that job.

I say again that I thank the good Lord for removing me from Law Enforcement, and I likewise thank him for having led me there in the first place to see another dimension to the world that most people never experience nor want to experience. Sometimes I wish I could turn it all off and not remember the things I’ve seen.

We do need to recognize that sin is sin and I don’t think any good Christian is going to deny that.

But it seems that it’s easy for some people to make judgments against the souls of people you haven’t met…all I ask is that we all consider the situations they face and realize that in the end it’s God who will judge their hearts and their actions.

ALL of us sin…some of us lie, some of us drink too much, some of us committ adultery, beat our children, kick the dog or committ theft…and not a single one of us has a right to point a finger at anyone and deem them a sinner because they lie.

I think I’m taking this too personally as I’m know that no comments were meant that way, but this is close to my heart due to my history in this field. (not FBI). Actually, the FBI annoys me, as does the DEA, but that’s another story.

But I digress. Thanks for letting me rant a little.

We really need to pray for sinners in uniform…they are the sinners that help keep the sinners from taking the world over from the rest of us sinners! 😛

I tend to disagree that lying is always a sin. When asked by a reporter, Mayor Koch replied he would never lie, except in 2 cases.

One, if he needed to fire someone, rather than tell that person they were a bad employee or incompetent, he would lie to them to spare their feelings.

and two, if he knew someone was dying and they asked him, he would lie to ease their suffering.

I think in some situations, the greater good is far better served with a lie rather than the truth.

If a young child is terminally ill, the parents or doctor may decide that rather than panic or further depress the child, lying about their condition or chances for recovery may be the best course of action. In some cases a positive mental attitude may the difference between life and death. As a pediatric nurse, I would disagree with that. Children often know that they are going to die. One doesn’t have to tell them outright, however. Waiting until they ask is a good course, and then ask them “Well, do you think you are going to die?” Quite often the answer will be yes.

Telling someone they have no hope or very little chance for survival may be the worst thing that can be said to them. Studies have shown that patients going into major operations, who have a postive mental attitude survive in far large numbers that those who go in with fellings of dread or hopelessness.
