I love the scene where Pius XII, played by Sir John Gielgud, though backing O’Flaherty, questions whether a course of prudence might be as wise as the Irish priest’s seeming pedal to the metal boldness.

In response, Peck as O’Flaherty explains he follows the advice of his childhood pastor in Ireland. I paraphrase:
"Do what is right. Come hell or high water. And God will give you the upper hand."

A made for TV movie that could have won Oscars IMO. Presuming the Academy opted for quality over PC style templates.

The South Korean one is so good, and the Twilight-y one has so many problems.

Rhubarb, I agree Idiocracy is underrated.

Two underrated movies I want to add are Scorched, a direct-to-video heist comedy, and The Emperor’s Club, a nice movie with Kevin Kline as a teacher at a boarding school.
 
JUST watched “The Reluctant Saint” (1962) on Turner Classic Movies. Never saw it before.

An account of the true story of St. Joseph of Cupertino! < Canonized in 1767
*The life of this saint was marked by ecstasies and levitations. The mere mention of God or a spiritual matter was enough to take him out of his senses; at Mass he is said to have frequently floated in the air in rapture. Once as Christmas carols were being sung, he soared to the high altar and knelt in the air, in ecstatic prayer. The people flocked to him in droves seeking help and advice in the confessional, and he assisted many in living a truly devout Christian life. However, this humble man had to endure many severe trials and terrible temptations throughout his life. He died on September 18, 1663.

Giuseppe Desa, a simple and good-natured peasant boy who lives in Cupertino, Italy, during the 17th century, loses his job as a laborer because of his ineptness. In desperation, Francesca, his mother, arranges for him to enter a Franciscan monastery run by her brother Giovanni and Father Raspi. Given the task of cleaning the abbey, the clumsy Giuseppe breaks a statue of the Madonna.

Later he is placed in charge of the stable and shows a natural affinity with the animals, although the stable remains a mess. Giuseppe wins the friendship of Bishop Durso, who orders that he be trained for the priesthood. By sheer luck, he passes the first examination; and while praying before the broken Madonna, he is seen rising off the floor.

Father Raspi believes that Giuseppe has become possessed by the Devil and forces him to undergo an exorcism, but the young monk rises again in spite of the chains placed on him during the ceremony. The monastery and Father Raspi then accept him as saintly, and he is later canonized by the church.
