Shouldn’t it be in Theology or Spirtuality?

Because I’m a non-catholic trying to get and understanding of Cathicisim and I’m also hoping to help Catholics understand where I’m coming from, if that is at all possible.

Ok, so we seem to be in somewhat of an agreement that there would be no discrepencies between what the Apostles wrote and what they had taught verbally.

Now, can we therefore assume that anything that they taught concerning the Old Testament Prophecies would also be consistant and that there would therein be no inconsistencies as well?

Feelings have nothing to do with it, it is a matter of searching for what is true, gaining an understanding, and being able to communicate respectfully and intelligently.

You may want to try the apologetics on this forum as well. They are very learned and can be a huge help. The catholic religion can seem complex even for catholics and it’s often misunderstood. But aren’t all religions at times?

Thanks for the recommendation, however, as I am not Catholic and this part of the forum appears to be designed for non-catholics to ask questions and, perhaps, post opinions, I perfer to continue here in hopes of obtaining the answers to these questions. Got any?

Apostles were human and capable of making mistakes. However, these mistakes could be corrected by the church as a whole.

Even in scripture we see disagreement about the need for circumcision of gentile converts.

The church met together and the council of Jerusalem and reached a decision. This decision was then conveyed to the parties in question.

This teaching then became the one and only official position of the church on this matter.

Note that the decision was settled based on a direct revelation to Peter from God in a vision.

If decisions were made in councils in the early church why was there a change, and by what authority was this change made, by which only one person was given ultimate final authority on church issues?

In reference to the “decision being settled based on a vision from God to Peter”, I’ve never heard that. Do you have some sort of reference materials on this. I can’t seem to find any references to this in the Catholic Encylopedia?
