Understanding DH's Faith

My DH was raised Presbyterian. Can someone please explain the tenets of this faith with some historical facts (founders origination dates etc). He doesn’t really call himself Presbyterian now but often refers to it as being something he aligns closely to.

He is asking me more questions about Catholicism and I would like to have a good understanding of where he’s coming from.

Prebysterian= Scottish Calvinist. Classic protestant denomination.
Liberal or Conservative branches?
Scott Hann was one of the conservative ones. Maybe some of his books might be heplfull.
