Hi All,

I am a Catholic come Home and am trying to become more involved by following the missal at Mass. I had trouble with the parish missal so figured I would buy my own Daily Roman Missal (DRM). When I think that I have it figured out the whole Mass changed.

i.e. 13th week ordinary time… When getting my DRM setup for church Sunday things went great. Watching EWTN Mass on Monday evening, it was Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul. I didn’t know this (Newbie). But figured it out where the readings were well after the readings were over. Then I wasn’t able to follow the mass at all.

Can anyone help me out with knowing how to use the DRM correctly and follow the mass.

Most likely the priest was praying a different Eurchastic prayer from the one you were looking at. There are several. Some priests typically pray the same one all the time, except on Solemnities. Others switch it up often. And some pray Prayer 1 for all Sundays and Holydays.

Also, the some of the prayers are not in those Missals because the prayer is unique to that particular day and/or Feast.

I hope this helps.

God bless

The Mass on EWTN is celebrated by Franciscans. Franciscans have a different liturgical calendar and slightly different Mass.

Both the Roman calendar and the Franciscan calendar specify the Solemnity of Saints peter and Paul so it happens to line up. This is not always the case and even when the feast days do line up the prayers may or may not be exactly the same.

I appreciate your (name removed by moderator)ut guys. I guess it will take me some time to get used to using the missal. I was practicing using DRM with the mass on EWTN and now know why. Thank you and God Bless

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has a list of the daily Mass Readings on their website which will allow you to check if you are in the right place in your missal.

And, set the ribbon markers to the corresponding page. I also have one set to the ordinary so I can follow along with it too.

This is a great idea… Thank for advice

I thought missal was supposed to be universal - so that all Catholic churches are synchronised globally? I see there is a Roman Daily Mass and a St Joseph etc. Are they not simply different publishers of the same content?

I can’t answer your question about the different Missals but I agree, I thought that the missals were to be pretty standard and a direct connection worldwide to the actual mass. But there have been some good points here. I will just double check the readings etc before going to mass.
