restores us to a state of grace.
Can you define this?
We must be detached, or dead to sin as Saint Paul taught us in Romans.
When you say dead, do you mean not having any knowledge of sin: kind of like when Adam and Eve also did not know sin until Eve disobeyed God and were banished from the garden?
Here’s the thing: God isn’t wrathful and hating on us humans. He loves us and wants to spend eternity with us. So, He sent His Son Jesus to save us from our sins.
This doesn’t make sense. I believe He doesn’t hate humans but He is wrathful because His wrath is righteousness and it is to be feared. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Jesus saved us from sin so that we wouldn’t have to face God’s wrath.

@skyjoy00,

The state of grace is the state of having no unconfessed mortal sins on the soul.

Being dead to sin means to be unresponsive to the inclination to sin. In other words: Dead by ignoring it.

The wrath of God as I understand it means:

God loves the sinner; He hates the sin.

Thus, He loves us and sent Jesus to save us.

Okay, I think I understand now.
@(name removed by moderator) - So would all souls go to purgatory? If not, how would you go straight to heaven, after all no one is perfect in this world?

Does that include personally asking God for forgiveness, not just confession? I ask God to forgive my sins daily either in prayer or when thanking Him for my blessings.

@skyjoy00,

We know for certain that Sacramentally confessed mortal sins are forgiven.

I’m sorry, @(name removed by moderator). I should’ve remembered that. I meant well.

So true, and I have two more questions.
  1. What are sacraments(should’ve asked earlier)
  2. Do Catholics believe that Baptists or other Protestants will go to Heaven?
    My view on this is anyone who truly believes in the Trinity and that Jesus was crucified, died, and rose on the third day as well as practices God’s will for His glory alone and asks for forgiveness and repents will go to Heaven. As long as said person has sincere intentions on following the Father almighty.

@skyjoy00,

To answer:

1:

Baptism
Confirmation
Matrimony
Eucharist
Confession
Anointing of the Sick
Holy Orders

2: Yes, it’s possible for non Catholics to go to heaven. God gives His Mercy to those as He wills. We know that the best chance people have to go to heaven is in the Catholic Church with the fullness of the Faith.

Thank you again for your answers and insight, I promise I won’t ask questions like this every day, it’s just nice to have friendly conversations on religion. And if you have any questions on my personal beliefs feel free to ask! Although I may be a little incompetent in some aspects (as I said, I wasn’t much of a Bible reader before now). God bless! Have a Happy New Year as well!

No problem, @skyjoy00.

You can always ask as you feel the need.

God bless and Mary keep you.

Same here, @(name removed by moderator).

Every time I talk with someone I’m learning something new.

I would add, though, that Catholics, having the fullness of Truth, have access to more ‘help’ as it were mainly through the Eucharist and confession but also through special devotions and intercession. Given this earthly life full of suffering and problems, we need all the heavenly help we can get.

@Dan_Defender,

I think the majority of the help in our pilgrim journey on Earth is that we have all seven Sacraments

I have an update: I originally intended not to convert coming to this forum and after getting to know the beliefs of the religion, I still don’t want to convert. I see however that there are certain things upheld in the Catholic faith that I see no fault with following, for example the intercession of saints and accepting Mary as my mother although I do not believe her to be holy or her to be born without sin, those are reserved for the Messiah, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I understand purgatory but don’t believe in it because Jesus has already taken all our sin away when he suffered on the cross. I will continue to explore the Catholic faith to have a better understanding of it and will attend Mass whenever I settle on a church to attend.
Side note: I know the above sounds insulting and forgive me for that but I wholeheartedly thank you all for your help. This forum has been nothing but kind and accepting and I appreciate that especially since I come from different beliefs. I feel like whichever church I settle on will be the same, as open minded and accepting as this forum, although I’ve learned a lot I have way more to go. Pray for me on this journey and I will pray for all of you. God bless everyone in the forum may you continue to find your way to heaven through Jesus Christ as well as lead others into His Kingdom to give glory to God, the Father Almighty in the life everlasting. Amen!

I thought only Jesus could be sinless because He is/was God on earth
Our Lady had to be immaculate because She was to be the Ever-Virgin Mother of His Only-begotten Son. God created Eve immaculate so why would He not do the same and even more for Our Lady? As St. Irenaeus and other Fathers of the Church said: “Death through Eve; life through Mary.”

Not a problem, @Margaret_Ann. How’s your New Year’s? Today’s the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God in the Latin Rite.
