Understanding the Mass

I want to know if there’s anybody out there who ever had the feeling of understanding the Mass beyond what you could learn from books.

I know sometimes when I attend alone (rather than with my little ones in tow) the Mass takes on a deeper signifigace to me. I’m not sure if it qualifies as a better understanding, but I do know that when I’m able to focus wholeheartedly, I have a much stronger appreciation for what is happening. I guess for me it’s sort of the difference between head and heart understanding.

All the time.

God draws me into contemplation, every time I attend Mass.

Yes, quite frequently. This is, I believe, where the Holy Spirit comes to the aid of our weakness, interceding on our behalf with inexpressible groanings as St Paul explains.

For me they are ineffable moments. Beyond words and beyond any other experience.
 
I try my best to spend at least 1/2 hr or more before Mass in preparation for this Holy event.

When I am at Mass, I request forgiveness for my sins.
I state my beliefs in the Creed.
I praise God in the Gloria.

I listen to the Word of God during the Readings and in prayer ask that His word be in my mind, that He be reflected in my speech and that I receive Him my heart.

I listen to the homily to further my understanding of what I have heard, or to consider another viewpoint.

I sing, I respond out loud.

I listen to every word of the Eucharistic Liturgy-if it is in another language, I follow along reading in English or I try to remember all the words (which I have heard hundreds of times) I am far from perfect in offering Glory to God, but I try.

When Our Lord joins us, I acknowledge Him and I thank Him.

When The Precious Blood is elevated, I am on calvary-(it is always dark and windy in my mind)How can I ever forget that my Lord has died for me so that I may have eternal life?

At the second elevation I offer all I am, as is, to God along with the perfect Sacrifice of His Son, requesting that He help perfect my will unto His .

Then together with Our Mother Mary, and all the Angels & Saints in Heaven, Our Pope, Our Bishop, all priests and clergy, and all baptized Christians and all who fear God I ask that He accept our sacrifice and request that He shower us all us with His Graces.

Again I ask Him to take away my sins.

At the third elevation of our Lord, I state my unworthiness, then I ask Our Mother Mary to come be beside me or in my
heart so that Her Son will be greeted by Her love as He comes to me.

After reception of the Holy Eucharist and the Precious Blood I recite prayers usually the Anima Christi and the Our Father, and others in serious joy in the knowing that Jesus prays with me.

Again I give thanks and praise to my God, acknowledging, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and what my God has given to me.

Then I resolve to live my Faith throughout each day.

After Mass, I spend some time in prayer because Jesus is so very close, and I am in awe that He would deem to join such an imperfect creature-usually The Apostles Creed, then seven times the Our Father, the Hail Mary, and the Glory be-praying that He bring His Peace to this world.
Also, the Divine Mercy Chaplet at times.

This is not everything I do at mass, but these highlight most.

And no, this knowledge did not just come from reading books, it has been the greatest gift the Holy Spirit has ever given me.

Thanks for this site-I am not familiar with this particular revelation, but it reminded me that I like to ask the Holy Angels who guard the Tabernacle and my Guardian Angel (also Our Lady ,St.Pio, St Faustina, St.Margaret Mary,
St Gertrude and others)along with any other Guardians Angels if others are in Church to accompany me as I make the Stations of the Cross.
 
I am puzzled as to why a discussion of the Liturgies of the Word and Eucharist would be moved to the spiritually forum…I will sleep on it.:hmmm:

I’m not sure that I really believe the revelation, but since the Bishop gave the “fit to print” stamp of approval, I think it’s good food for thought for considering what goes on at Mass on the spiritual level.

I imagine that in reality, it’s more spectacular than Rivas describes.
