Some things I would like to clear up in this discussion…
There are two very different approaches to a vaginal birth
1.) Normal Birth = using medical interventions such as epidurals, petocin etc. (sometimes necessary and sometimes not)
2.) Natural Birth = using natural techniques (labor tub, massages, birthing ball… Even having a Doula can decrease chances of needing pain medication or end up with a c-section)
When choosing a Normal Birth with medical interventions, one is opening the chain of events of medical interventions on a woman in labor. For example, petocin (which is an injection of artificial oxytocin to the womans body to induce) which synthetically causes the woman to have contractions, but at a much stronger level. This causes a deeper pain, which means a need for an epidural. Now once the woman is under the influence of an epidural, she is in less control of things. The doctor monitors her condition and how and when to push. The natural steps of labor are taered with and unattatches mother from active participation.
In a natural birth, the mother is able to use techniques which assist the natural process of labor. She can walk around and practice breathing techniques, use a birth tub, stand or be in different positions which are conducive to delivering a baby. Laying on the back and being sedated with drugs is more likely to prolong a birth.
This being said, I am not accusing any woman who chooses to use drugs to help her with pain as sinning. Yet, there is a disattatching from the process of birth and altering the direction. This is still NOT the question of my thread.
What I am proposing is that a woman is NOT a patient in a hospitol because she is ready to deliver a baby, AND from all exams using medical technology she has NO conditions or problems which require a surgery instead of vaginal birth, whether Normal with interventions (when needed) or a completely natural with many techniques and knowledgable people with experience. For example, my wife will NOT have a doctor at the house, yet there will be a nurse and a doula (woman who helps with techniques and methods for the mother to successfully deliver the baby). She has been visiting a doctor, who will be available in case of a problem during delivery. This doctor will be at the hospitol.
I have expressed the complete difference of a labor which has no signs of problems and a healthy woman and child reaching full term and naturally going into labor, and a woman who, without any evident issues of danger or risk of complications chooses a surgery (which is NOT a minor surgery, but major) to remove the baby from the womb. This surgery is classified as major because of the level of risk. The level of risk of complications from a pregnant woman without any pre existing signs of complications and who has not naturally gone into the stage of labor increases 3 times for the mother and 2.5 times for the child.
As for the comments about…
17 To Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat from it,’
“Cursed is the ground because of you;
through painful toil you will eat food from it
all the days of your life.
18 It will produce thorns and thistles for you,
and you will eat the plants of the field.
19 By the sweat of your brow
you will eat your food
until you return to the ground,
since from it you were taken;
for dust you are
and to dust you will return.”
I dont see how the assistence of medicine or technology in either case is wrong. Whether the man, or the woman they are able to use their mind and resources to assist their work. Man has the duty to work to receive food and his needs.
What would be the equivalent of a woman choosing unwarranted surgery as an alternative to a vaginal birth for a man working for his living? Using equipment for his work? I dont see the analogy.
The issue, is using the necessary means of medicine and intervention when actually needed.
