Should we discuss today’s second reading, and the bit that was left out? Why was it edited out?

What, if anything, do you think was lost by leaving out those verses?

By the way, it is not unusual for the Mass readings to leave out verses in the middle. Look at last Friday’s first reading, for example: Ruth 1:1, 3-6, 14B-16, 22 (full “unexpurgated” text here).

The full text is always available for those who desire it. I trust that in the Lectionary, the Church has made the best selection of verses for each day’s Liturgy of the Word.

It’s just interesting to me that the post-Vatican II Lectionary edits out a few verses here and there.
It is interesting to me as well. If I had more time, I would examine the Lectionary and try to guess the reasons. As I wrote before, I would begin with the assumption that “in the Lectionary, the Church has made the best selection of verses for each day’s Liturgy of the Word.” I know that there are conspiracy theories that say otherwise, and I reject them.

Maybe it’s because people don’t want to say the “b” word out loud (illegitimate child). 🤣
