In Shorter Christian Prayer, one of the Intercessions for Advent Monday Morning is:

Give us unfailing gentleness at all times, toward everyone we meet.

How is gentleness unfailing?

Unwavering and ever-present gentleness and meekness is a fruit of the Holy Spirit

… and there is “no law” against the fruit of the spirit.

To me, unwavering and unconditional gentleness is one part of the peace of Christ that He gives, that the world cannot give. That is, the world can give comfort which is temporary and conditional. When the conditions change, the comfort can go away. The peace of Christ is unconditional, and stays with us through all sorts of conditions both of trials and consolations.

Worldly “peace” is giving certain conditions seemingly favorable.

Jesus gives us peace that doesn’t require conditions.

I figure if I wait until the world is just right according to my desire, before I am happy, then I’ll be waiting a long way. Either that or I must lose that desire for it to be a certain way as a condition of my feeling like I have successfully done my duty as a Christian. Jesus wasn’t about manipulating the world. It was about accepting, loving, and forgiving the world in all of its glory and splendor, but also horror.
