Unforgiveable Sin - Fornication\Blasphemy against Spirit?

Now if I’m correct the unforgiveavle sin is “Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit”. Which in turn is rejecting that Jesus Christ is our Saviour - and once more rejecting God Himself; and refusing to believe in Him.

Correct me if I’m wrong.

However, I’ve recently come accross these scripture passages on the internet:

1 Cor. 6:18-19
“Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the
body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?”

1 Cor. 3:17:
“ If any man defile the temple
of God [sexually uniting his seed with an alien race], him[/her ensuing offspring] shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.”

Through these passages - They state that our bodies are a TEMPLE; therefore our bodies are also a temple of the Holy Ghost which is in us. So if one is to committ fornication they would also be committing blasphemy against the Holy Spirit?

But then we can recall an argument against this as Mary Magdeline was forgiven of sins when she was a prostitute.

But I’d like to see everyone’s views on these scripture passages and how you interpret them plus how fornication and blasphemy may, or may not relate.

Blasphemy against the Holy spirit is final refusal to repent.

I am not a scripture scholar, so what I say others more knowledgeable than me probably have a better answer, but it seems to me that you have quoted these verses way out of their original context and given them a meaning they do not seem to have.

In the first place, in 1Cor. 3, Paul is addressing the Christian community who seem to be divided among themselves about who they will follow-Paul or Apollos or others–they are inclined to follow a man, rather than God. Paul is telling them that he laid the foundation and others are building upon it, but that the foundation upon which everything is built is Jesus Christ. If someone comes along and tries to lay a foundation other than Jesus Christ it will be revealed on the day of Judgement. The “temple” he refers to seems to be the community of believers among whom the Spirit dwells, and if someone destroys this community by false preaching, they have destroyed what is holy, and they will be destroyed. The “temple” here is not a reference to someone’s personal body, but to the Body of Christ–the Christian community where the Holy Spirit dwells. It has nothing to do with sexual immorality or an “alien race”.

There is no place in Scripture where Mary Magdelene is referred to as a prostitute. Mark and Luke say that she had seven demons cast from her.

1 Cor 6 12-20 does deal with sexual immorality. The intimacy of marriage and the sexual act symbolizes the deep intimacy of God’s relationship with us when we are joined with the Lord, and fornication, adultery, and other sexual acts outside the bonds of marriage violate that bond. Our bodies do not belong to us–they belong to the Lord, and in marriage they belong to our spouses, so when one sins with their body in such a manner they are sinning against that intimate union with our spouses and also our intimate union with God (whether we are married or not). I am not sure I am makiung myself clear on this. But sexual immorality is a forgivable sin, and it is not the sin of final impenitence, which is Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. So I cannot see how you have connected the two. Jesus clearly forgave fornication and adultery in the Gospels. Again, it is a matter of taking things out of context and not looking at the whole, I think.

I’m not convinced you actually know what the unforgivable sin really means. Here is the Church teaching:

CCC 1864 “Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven.” There are no limits to the mercy of God, but anyone who deliberately refuses to accept his mercy by repenting, rejects the forgiveness of his sins and the salvation offered by the Holy Spirit. Secondly, as another poster has pointed out Mary Magdalene was not a prostitute and there is no scriptural basis for even speculating such.

Fornication is not blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. Fornication is indeed a very grave sin, but it is still not the unforgivable sin. It can be pardoned if repentance is sincere.

It is the Holy Spirit who helps you to repent. But when you blaspheme against the Spirit, he leaves you and then you are no longer able to repent of that sin. Therefore that sin is unpardonable, for you just can’t repent of having commited it.

Fornication is NOT blasphemy of the Holy Spirit; blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is blaspheming the Holy Spirit: speaking ill against the Spirit of God.
The reason it is almost impossible for this to happen today (and yet it took place in the days when Jesus was on the earth) imo, is because Jesus was 100% obedient, and therefore, a perfect representation of the Holy Spirit, whereas, in these days, there is NO ONE with such obedience to God that it makes you NEED to confess that he is of God to the level Jesus did, being the EXACT image and glory of God. To call Him and the Good Spirit He operated by… “evil”, this is speaking ill words against the Spirit of God. Today, however, as I stated, it is nearly impossible to commit blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, because no lay man has really seen God portrayed in such a convincing manner, there is almost no way for a lay man to commit blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, being that there have been VERY FEW good representatives of Him. I am concerned about this, because there are people walking about with this fear (lay men) that they have done this sin - and therefore this fear drives them to do things which they THINK are blasphemy against the Holy Spirit - such as “denying the Spirit”. “Denying the Spirit” is NOT blaspheming the Holy Spirit; it is seeing the work of God and being fully convinced by Your heart that it is God, and seeing the goodness of God, and calling it “evil” – and this happened to the Pharisees because they were jealous of the attention which was being given to Jesus; not to any lay man who has never seen God or the goodness of God, and not to any person who is not plotting how to steal God’s glory or kill Jesus Christ for religious jealousy. IMO

There is almost no way for a lay man to commit blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, being that there have been VERY FEW good representatives of the Holy Spirit - and even less that have been viewed by the everyday man/businessman/scientst/etc.
I am very concerned about this, because Rick Warren set forth this destructive lie in his book, unknowingly, and by it, has caused many (even unbelievers) to fear that they have committed this unforgiveable sin, and therefore, dare not try to be saved, because they are deceived into thinking they are hopeless! There are people walking about with this fear (lay men) that they have done this sin - and therefore this fear drives them to do things which they THINK are blasphemy against the Holy Spirit - such as “denying the Spirit” (I saw a video of a man on YouTube speaking crazily about “denying the Spirit”). I say this because I had spoken with someone once that I recollect perfectly, who said that he had committed the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit or cited Rick Warren as the source for saying that even if he wanted to be saved, he couldn’t, because “not believing in Jesus Christ’s work IS blasphemy of the Holy Spirit”. I think that if you DON’T KNOW, you should just shut your mouth and say that you DON’T KNOW, not write a book and fill it with nonsense, not even thinking about the impact it is going to have on the people who read it - and those who don’t. God, help Rick Warren, our brother, and have mercy on him.

Fornication is not the unforgivable sin:
“So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.” John 8:7

This woman Jesus saved from the legalistic Jews would’ve never been forgiven if it were so. God loves you, and I love you in Christ! Peace!
Only change your thoughts and ways and plan to do what is pleasing to Christ - that which would make you acceptable to Him 2 Cor 5:9, remembering it is because you love Him that you want to do what is right; not only to be “right”, legalistically, which we are also, being weak humans, of the capacity to do.

I believe and always have believed (even when I was involved with Pentecostalism) that the Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit aka “the unforgivable sin” is the final and last refusal to repent and accept the Grace of God for salvation through His Son, Jesus Christ.
