I must confess here a fantasy I’ve had for years.

Going to the Crystal Cathedral, turning on a Memorex tape of Ella Fitzgerald singing, and then running away like hell!

😃

😛

It wouldn’t work, but it would be an interesting conversation piece.

What is worse is what has it done to this family? I feel very sorry for them

I am glad we have a Pope…he keeps us all on the same page spiritually

Sadly, this will likely spawn several splinter groups. This split between Schuler Dad and Schuler Son will absolutely divide the congregation into two, for starters. Then there’ll be the ones who side with Dad Schuler, but want to retain some things they like about Son Schuler, and start their own fellowship. And those who side with Son Schuler, but want to keep some things they liked about Dad Schuler, so that group will then form. So we’re up to four break-away fellowships already.

Then there’ll be those who don’t like any of the offshoot groups, and will either find new fellowships or start their own. Isn’t that sad? 😦

heres a joke…

I was walking across a bridge one day, and I saw a man standing on the edge, about to jump off. So I ran over and said, “Stop! Don’t do it!” “Why shouldn’t I?” he said. I said, “Well, there’s so much to live for!” He said, “Like what?” I said, “Well, are you religious or atheist?” He said, “Religious.” I said, “Me too! Are your Christian or Buddhist?” He said, “Christian.” I said, “Me too! Are you Catholic or Protestant?” He said, “Protestant.” I said, Me too! Are your Episcopalian or Baptist? He said, “Baptist!” I said, “Wow! Me too! Are your Baptist Church of God or Baptist Church of the Lord? He said, Baptist Church of God!” I said, “Me too! Are your Original Baptist Church of God or are you Reformed Baptist Church of God?” He said, “Reformed Baptist Church of God!” I said, “Me too! Are you Reformed Baptist Church of God, Reformation of 1879, or Reformed Baptist Church of God, Reformation of 1915?” He said, “Reformed Baptist Church of God, Reformation of 1915!” I said, “Die, heretic scum!” and pushed him off.

My experience is that having a Pope certainly doesn’t keep us on the same page spiritually. There is as much diversity and even division from parish to parish and from archdiocese to archdiocese - and especially between individual Catholics - as the Protestants have. I know of priests in the theology department of the same Catholic college who don’t even agree on whether Hell exists or not or even where the doctrine of Purgatory comes from.

They might speculate but they are not defining dogma…We are still one church…people don’t stomp off in a huff and create a new one

Perhaps not, but it is what they are teaching and preaching - so for the average congregant who is trusting the priest to accurately convey dogma it means that there is a fundamental split and they have created a new church of their own - whether in a huff or not. One can even find books with an imprimatur that contradict each other. The concept of doctrinal unity within the Church is purely an illusion. It doesn’t help for us to be willfully blind to this fact of Catholic life.

We have CCC and I have never been in a church that spoke against it, ro taught contrary to what it tells us is a sin

Find someone else to argue with…I feel blessed to have the Holy Father and secure that he is in charge…are we perfect ??..no…but what church is?

I’m sorry. I’m honestly not trying to argue. But I have in my possession a personal audio-taped response (to a letter my wife wrote with some questions) from a priest, who at the time was the Chairman of the Theology Department at a well-known mid-west Catholic college. In it he says that he doesn’t believe in Hell, that Satan is a real, personal being and that “concerning where the doctrine of Purgatory comes from, I haven’t the foggiest idea.” I understand that you may have not experienced this personally, I’m just pointing out that the Holy Father is unfortunately not in control of the Church to the degree that some would like to believe and as a result there is as much divergent teaching as among the Protestants that are condemned for the same thing.

😃

We need to have a thread with nothing but (clean and non-offensive) religious jokes.

That is JUST HILARIOUS! Good one!

Is it just me or does old man Schueller look like a twisted evangelical version of Michael Jackson? That dude’s scary!

I see from your username that you are from Hungary - or at least know Hungarian for “morning star”. 🙂
My knowledge of the Magyar language is limited to my user name, some basic greetings, and a few words and phrases that have no business being on a family-oriented forum.😉

"Wonder what this is going to do to the huge mega-church. Any thoughts? "

I do not think it will really have much if an impact. RA was already the Pastor of his own church In San Juan Capistrano, about 20 mins away from the Crystal Cathedral. Although I am a devout, serious Catholic, I do hold the Schuller’s in high regard. I see them around town frequently and they are very warm, friendly people. They seem to WALK their TALK!
