I was thinking…how often in our lives have we offended, hurt another’s feelings, and perhaps never even realised that a word or phrase, or something we failed to say, caused, causes hurt?
Even after many years of marriage, my husband might say something, or I, and there is a sense of hurt until the other explains what really was meant by the words.
There are many people on the periphery of our lives who perhaps have misunderstood our intentions, words, acts, from time to time? We may never know for sure on earth.
The truth is that we can automatically assume that we all understand each other, relating to our own private experience and mental frameworks, but we probably have often been mistaken, or partially. I do know that my own intentions have been harshly judged at times, maybe because I’m a bit strange anyway, (which hasn’t never been said, double-negative intended).
We all come from different family cultures, national and many layers of other differences. This could be why there is sometimes hurt in our forum posts.
Our actions also can be a source of hurt to others. I was astonished when a lady from church told me I’d terribly offended her husband because I’d snubbed him in the street. When? Where? I have no idea
Where we can try to repair or to explain, or apologise sometimes, we certainly can’t where we don’t know we have hurt others.
So Lord, please protect us from hurting others with unintentional hurt and unintentional neglect as we go though life.
