Today I happened to catch the first 20 minutes of a popular action film, “Escape from Los Angeles”. My apologies to any fans of this movie, but any movie with dialogue such as: “Call me Snake” just can’t be taken seriously–at least not by me. Anyway, what other films have you seen that were meant to be taken serioulsy that you just couldn’t get into?

Hahaha, hmmm lets see.

The Room- Such a hilariously bad film, I haven’t ever seen the whole thing.

Hercules in New York- Arnold Schwarzenegger first role where he was the star. Again it is hilariously bad.

I can’t really think of anything else though, I have a tendency to watch good films hehe.

Okay, definitely one of the most unintentionally funny films that I’ve seen is the 1997 television movie adaptation of Jane Eyre (produced by the A&E network). The acting is painfully awkward, and the two main actors, bless them, have absolutely no chemistry, so each scene together is quite cringe-worthy. However, when I first had the opportunity to watch this, I was with my class (and we all had just read the book). After a few startled moments of watching the movie, (I believe we were all silently thinking, “Is this for real???”) I started laughing, and we all had a wonderful time viewing the film as an unintentional comedy.

The Incredibles. 😃 Yes, I know it isn’t a serious film, but it’s not supposed to be a comedy either.

Oh my. That’s just bad! :rotfl:
I can’t say I’ve seen any films that made me laugh unintentionally for those reasons. You know what? That clip reminded me of every ad I’ve seen for anything airing on abcfamily. Now I don’t actually watch any of the shows, but the previews for them are bad enough.

Hands down Pendragon Pictures H.G. Wells’ War of the Worlds (2005). This movie had some of the worst acting and “cutting edge special effects” I have ever seen. So bad I reccomend it. Kinda gory so be warned. Anyway, since it follows the novel, scenes derived from lines in the book such as “…I walked to the train station to waylay him.” actually show the actor walking and walking and walking, (in the book it was about a two mile walk so you have long scenes of him actually doing this an nothing else happening.

I think quite a few films come off as unintentionally funny but are actually meant to be amusing. I’m a fan of them myself. Killer Klowns from Outer Space is a great example.

I watched Troll 2 and it was terrible but I had to watch it because I LOVE Troll! Since it’s an older film it’s harder to tell if Troll was meant to be campy or not because films have become so much more sophisticated today. Almost anything filmed 20 to 30 years ago seems funny when I watch them now.

Flash Gordon is awesome.

I have to say I think most macho action films (not just action films, but particularly macho ones usually starring Jason Statham) are ALWAYS unintentionally funny (unless Guy Ritchie directs them).

And I’m also theorizing most horror movies that are (to my delight) created as throw backs to the 80’s are actually intentionally funny.

As far as more serious films I guess I’m just lucky in that department and watch the good ones.

Troll 2 isn’t even a real sequel to Troll. An Italian director, who wasn’t fluent in English, wrote a movie he titled Goblins. The company releasing it didn’t think it would do well on its own, so it was marketed as a sequel to the completely unrelated Troll. Oh, and he was trying to be serious. He did not understand why everyone thought it was a comedy

The writer claimed it was a black comedy after it came out. I think he was just trying to cover up the mess though. 😃

Star Wars Episodes 1 and 2 are pretty unintentionally funny at times.

No way, you beat me to it!!! I saw the title of the thread and actually got all excited about typing this one in:D 👍

I would have to add, The Mosquito (1995). Though I’m pretty sure the director was going for “scary”.

It wasn’t a funny movie at all, but there was a line in The Joy Luck Club that cracks me up every time. Its a very serious, supposedly dramatic dialogue where one woman is telling another of the fate of a set of twins.

Woman X, serious as can be: “June, the twins are still alive!”
June, surprised and equally serious: “Wh… what are you saying? That the twins are still alive??”

Not meant to be funny, but it is so redundant that it makes me laugh.

Killer Klowns from outer space??? LOL Im not really a movie watcher… but I have put this one particular film down that I saw years ago… the film was … hehe… The Exorcist… But hte reason I found it funny was… because a group of friends came to my home to watch it… Parents were away for the week end and my granny was staying with us… So we decided to have a horror session hehe… and we tried our best to get granny to go to bed … and she wouldn’t… so lol we put the film on… hoping that she would go when she saw what it was about… no luck hehe… she stayed right the way through it… and made the most hilarious comments all the way through ( she did that with everything she watched lol ) According to her… the girl had a double-jointed neck LOL and was amazed at this… All we could do was laugh… and she made other comments as well… like… “that poor girl doesn’t look to well” and “You would think they would put a heater in that girls’ room” … At the end of the film granny went to bed saying…" that was a funny film!!!" The Exorcist never really had the effect on me it was supposed to hehe.

Oh you must watch it sometime! Though it *does *rob the dignity of killer clowns everywhere. 😃

Priceless!

13 going on 30. Very inspirational but the title is too funny not to make a parody. 😛
