Okay, this is a bit complicated but I’ll try to make it as simple as possible.

Years ago, when I was younger and less educated in Catholicism, I committed a sin that may have been mortal. When I went to confession I basically only partially confessed it, and while I knew I wasn’t being entirely truthful in my head I thought it would be enough. A few years later I remembered what had happened and it weighed on my conscience enough that I confessed both the sin and my incomplete confession.

I had been taking Communion for those years between the sin and my full confession, not thinking that I was in a state of mortal sin. I never explicitly confessed that I had taken Communion during those years; when I finally made my full confession and said it had taken place years ago, in my head I assumed that the priest would just know that logically I would have also taken Communion during that time as well.

So my question is, can I assume that something I didn’t explicitly state was included in my confession, especially when it wasn’t deliberately left out?

You don’t need to confess receiving because your first confession was valid. You gave all you thought was relevant at the time so your sins were forgiven.

Had you deliberately left it out you would have to confess receiving. All sins need to be named explicitly.

Sorry, I should have been a little clearer. In my first confession, I was knowingly not providing all the relevant information. Reflecting now, I do not think my first confession was valid, but I don’t know if I knew that at the time.

You can always confess that you made a bad confession and then mention any sins you have. I have done this before a few times as embarrassment due to impurity sins in the past caused me lie/withhold them in confession. I would ask a Priest you know, perhaps your confessor about the situation
