Unique nature of Israelite prophecy

We recognise that there were other prophets around the times Israels prophets were speaking but we hold Israelite prophecy to have unique characteristics. What are they? How do we tell a false prophet from a true prophet? What makes Israelite prohecy different from Muslim prophecy?

We recognise that there were other prophets around the times Israels prophets were speaking but we hold Israelite prophecy to have unique characteristics. What are they? How do we tell a false prophet from a true prophet? What makes Israelite prohecy different from Muslim prophecy?

Well, to begin with, I would say that the Israelite prophecy was in place 1000 years before Mohammad. Therefore, anything that followed had to be in conformity with what was contained in those prophecies.

As to recognizing Israelite prophecy being true versus the other prophets who were around at the same time, I’m not sure that God expected other nations to recognize it as being true. The Israelites were not given the command to go out and evangelize. They were almost given the opposite command; that is, they were to remain separate. Their way of life however was to be a witness to other nations.
Deut 4:6-8 “Keep them and do them; for that will be your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples, who, when they hear all these statutes, will say, ‘Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people’…”
