Just spent some time reading the SSPX letter to its members after their Chapter meeting. Also read the initial Vatican response to the letter.

I’m exhausted from this.

For months the news regarding the Schisms on the Left (for example the LWCR) and the right (SSPX) has been ugly.

Concerned for all within the church: may God protect all of us from the damage these battles are causing to our faith. May these battles not harden us to each other. May we look on each other with charity and compassion. May the Holy spirit lead those who have gone astray BACK into the faithful.

May God bless and protect the clergy: May he help them remain faithful.

Memorare (Prayer to Our Lady)
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession, was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you do I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy, hear and answer me. Amen

Hail Mary,
Full of Grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit
of thy womb,
Jesus.

Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of death.

Amen

Where’s the vatican response to the letter: All I can find is a statement that it is not a formal communique and the Vatican will await the forthcomming formal communications before responding.

I must say, having read the letter from the SSPX it does look much more favourable than I had feared. I was afraid they would openly reject the had of Peace our Pope is offering them. Instead they have acknowledged his authority, and re-stated their concern about particular issues. They have stated that for a reunification to take place they must be able to retain their identity. The existing offer of a Personal Prelature would certainly allow them to retain that identity. - permitting both Ordained members of the existing society, and the lay faithfull to return under the authority of their own bishops. This would definately allow them to retain their identity. It would definitely allow them to continue their mission as they see it to speak out against the perceived errors in the church both founded and unfounded.

In terms of the statement on the LWCR website: It hardly appears to be a humble response to authority, it reads more like a stated intention to appeal against the decision. It saddens me much more.

Every time I read or hear about one of these “groups”…or “lone ranger solo” types/issues…I put my self on The Road…and I let Jesus explain to me (in spirit, heart, mind)…how foolish I am…how all of these disturbing and aggravating things simply have to happen…in God’s Divine/Permissive Will…but not to worry…and let him remind me of God’s Sovereign control of everything…even when He allows all of these scandalous things to take place…I love this scripture event…Lord’s patience, calmness but firmness in telling the Truth about himself…who is Truth himself…somehow LWCR and SSPX…albeit serious and must be raised up to the Lord in prayer…fasting…almsgiving…they are not that big a deal in 2000+ years of building the Lord’s Kingdom here on earth.

Bottom line: lets go for a walk!

Pax Christi
Luke 24: 13-35
New International Version (NIV)
On the Road to Emmaus
13 Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles[a] from Jerusalem. 14 They were talking with each other about everything that had happened. 15 As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them/U]; 16 but they were kept from recognizing him.
17 He asked them, “What are you discussing together as you walk along?”
They stood still, their faces downcast. 18 One of them, named Cleopas, asked him, “Are you the only one visiting Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?”
19 “What things?” he asked.
“About Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied. “He was a prophet, powerful in word and deed before God and all the people. 20 The chief priests and our rulers handed him over to be sentenced to death, and they crucified him; 21 but we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel. And what is more, it is the third day since all this took place. 22 In addition, some of our women amazed us. They went to the tomb early this morning 23 but didn’t find his body. They came and told us that they had seen a vision of angels, who said he was alive. 24 Then some of our companions went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but they did not see Jesus.”
25 He said to them,** “How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?” 27 And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.**
28 As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus continued on as if he were going farther. 29 But they urged him strongly, “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over.” So he went in to stay with them.
30 When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. 31 Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight. 32 They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”
33 They got up and returned at once to Jerusalem. There they found the Eleven and those with them, assembled together 34 and saying,** “It is true! The Lord has risen and has appeared to Simon.”** 35 Then the two told what had happened on the way, and how** Jesus was recognized by them when he broke the bread**.

Eternal Father, we humbly offer Thee our poor presence, and that of the whole of humanity, from the beginning to the end of the world at all the Masses that ever have or ever will be prayed. We offer Thee all the pains, sufferings, prayers, sacrifices, joys, and relaxations of our lives, in union with those of our Lord Jesus here on earth. May the Most Precious Blood of Christ, all His Blood, Wounds, and Agony save us, through the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary. Amen.

For the Unity of the Church

O God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the only Savior, the Prince of Peace: Give us grace seriously to lay to heart the great dangers we are in by our unhappy divisions; take away all hatred and prejudice, and whatever else may hinder us from godly union and concord; that, as there is but one Body and one Spirit, one hope of our calling, one Lord, one Faith, one Baptism, one God and Father of us all, so we may be all of one heart and of one soul, united in one holy bond of truth and peace, of faith and charity, and may with one mind and one mouth glorify you; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
