That movie seems like it’s really in poor taste. Sometimes satire crosses the line, and it seems like that is the case, in this instance.

Probably a good idea not to do a big splashy release of such a film at this point, especially since I suspect it ends with the heroic female “deplorable” vanquishing the rich liberal elitist.

I also didn’t see it as satire or dark humor or anything…more like Hunger Games meets The Most Dangerous Game. I’m sure copies of it will be leaked online and it will now achieve cult film status.

This from Universal press release

“While Universal Pictures had already paused the marketing campaign for The Hunt , after thoughtful consideration, the studio has decided to cancel our plans to release the film,” the studio said in Saturday’s statement. "We stand by our filmmakers and will continue to distribute films in partnership with bold and visionary creators, like those associated with this satirical social thriller, but we understand that now is not the right time to release this film."

The violent movie from producer Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Productions follows a dozen individuals who wake up in a clearing and realize they are being stalked for sport by elite liberals.

I wonder if Mr. Blum will make a sequal, about hunting Jews? Or maybe Arabs? There is just no limit to possibilities for having good, clean, progressive fun.

When the Left objects to something coming out, it’s “sensitivity.” When the Right objects to some publication or video portrayal, it’s “censorship.”

I have to ask: Do you, when watching Friday the 13th, think that the message is to put on a hockey mask, go into the woods, and kill campers? Or, when watching American Psycho, do you think Paul Bateman is meant to be a model of how the average American should act?

Given the current toxic political climate permeated by hate and the incidents of mass shootings of “the enemy”, whoever that might be, making a movie about shooting the “deplorables” by the progressives is not at all as scifi as it sounds. Do I need to mention Hilary C. here?
This type of hunting down of the political enemy takes place all the time. Given that, I find your objection curious.

Or, when watching American Psycho ,
Yeah, it’s one of my favorite performances from Christian Bale. He does a phenomenal job selling the absolute insanity of his character. Though of course the true psycho is Dafoe’s character:

You’re missing the point. We aren’t intended to find everyone in a movie some beacon of righteousness that we model our lives after. Even the protagonist, at times, is incredibly flawed, sometimes downright evil (e.g. American Psycho, Nightcrawler, The Godfather, Scarface). In fact, often in these types of stories in particular, those doing the hunting are presented as either deeply flawed or absolutely evil. Even for The Hunt, the trailer I saw seemed to be going in that direction.

The part I quoted earlier only works if you assume that the movie is just some way to indulge a fantasy about killing Trump supporters. There’s absolutely no reason to believe that any more than thinking The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is an attempt to help people live out a fantasy as a serial killer and cannibal.

From my perspec, it would be a deplorable movie regardless of the timing of the release.

They have a “deplorable” heroine killing some of the liberal hunters so the political leanings of whoever made this are unclear.

“American Psycho”, the book, was hugely controversial and almost got pulled by the publisher. I think it ended up coming out only in paperback because of the fuss. I remember my husband-to-be went straight to the mall the week it was released and bought it for me as a gift because I wanted to read it and had expressed concern the store would take it off the shelves.

By the time the film version came out, everybody had kinda lost interest in the controversy. It was eventually made into a musical, can’t remember if it was on or off Broadway but I did see it.

Political leanings of hollywood are a big mystery to everyone. And how do you know about the “deplorable” heroine, Do you work for Universal, or was this a private screening?

We deplorables always miss the point. That’s how we got Trump elected.
And it was the progressive elites that worked so hard to make us think what they want. Well, that was a fail, wasn’t it? To remedy that, they will use movies to show some mentally challenged and frustrated lefties how to deal with us properly. But, it is all in good fun. Entertainment at its best.

You can literally look this up on Wikipedia or watch the trailer on YouTube.

Do you have any evidence that that was the intent. It’s already been pointed out that storytelling doesn’t demand we mimic the characters in the movie. It’s already been pointed out that these humans-hunting-humans stories tend to portray the hunters in a negative light. It’s already been pointed out that the movie seemed to be going the same route. It’s already been pointed out that the heroine is one of the hunted.

So do you, in spite of all of that, have any evidence, beyond your own preconceived notions, that the intent is to show the left how to kill the right?

I wouldn’t be surprised if it is still released
at a later date - possibly some changes will be made. To permanently shelve the
movie will be costly.

I am glad they have halted the release for now.

They already stated in the press release that they would release it later.
