“The story follows a group of elites hunting “deplorables” for sport.” That’s a quote from the Hollywood Reporter.
First of all, as has already been pointed out, not everyone followed in a movie is presented in a positive light.
Second, later on in the same article it says: “The violent movie…follows a dozen individuals who wake up in a clearing and realize they are being stalked for sport by elite liberals.” Clearly, “followed” in the article doesn’t mean “exclusive perspective”.
Now, it is entirely possible that this movie will flip the genre on its head and present the hunted more negatively than the hunters, but:
- That will probably be an ending twist, since the marketing to this point has indicated otherwise.
- We’d need to actually see the movie to confirm that, since, again, it is going against the tropes they’ve already established they’re working with.
So at this point, assigning such an intent is, at the very least, incredibly uncharitable.
And yes. You have already explained, multiple times, how you want me to think.
Ignoring the irony, if you want to present a viewpoint on a discussion platform that isn’t an echo chamber, be prepared for people to both point out flaws in your view and ask you to support them. It isn’t people telling you what to think. It’s people looking for you to show that the view you think is deserving of worldwide consumption is well-informed, well-reasoned, and well-presented. And if it very clearly isn’t, people may want such an admission, but that’s generally too much to ask on the Internet.
