Is it a good place to have my first experience as a Catholic?
Certainly, I’ll find a non-secular academic experience here, right?
Will this university allow me to grow spiritually?
Is their theology program any good?

If anyone has graduated from the University of Notre Dame, please tell me about it.

I’m a Catholic school teacher who works with teachers in Notre Dame’s ACE (Alliance for Catholic Education) and find that these coworkers are constently poorly formed with regard to orthodox Catholic (Roman Catholic, that is) theology.

I believe a great guide for Catholic prospective college students seeking an authentic Catholic education is the Newman Guide to Choosing a Catholic College published by the Cardinal Newman Society (the fact that Notre Dame is not on the list and is discussed in the guide’s epilogue).

P.S. I highly recommend my alma mater: Benedictine College or the Franciscan University of Steubenville (where the renowned Scott Hahn holds a professorship)

You might prefer to consider the University of Dallas, which to my understanding has an excellent theology dept.:

You will love it. You will grow academically and most importantly spiritually. Ignore the other posters, because they have not experienced the beauty of Notre Dame first hand. I have. Trust me on this one. I cannot think of a better place, and I have never been to a more spiritual place (and I checked out lots of Catholic universities for both undergrad and grad school)

I cannot re-iterate enough that you will absolutely love it.

You seem to be very enthusiastic about Notre Dame, Domer1997…I just looked at some of your previous posts. You’ve written 75 posts on this forum, and as far as I can tell, every single one of them is about Notre Dame. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, it’s just a little unique. 😛

I’m wondering, are you a professor at Notre Dame, or do you work at the university?

I looked into Xavier (Cincinnati), BC, G’Town, Catholic U., FUS, Loyola Marymount, U. of Dayton. They were all wonderful actually…in their own way. But, I found the Catholicism at ND to be swomewhat stronger than all of them (but equal to that at Catholic U. and Franc. U. of Stubenville definitely stood out positively in this category). But, ND’s academic reputation is so much stronger than Catholic U., and Franciscan U. of Stubenville, that there seemed to be no question for me. I have the utmost respect for all these universities. I actually went to grad school at Dayton, and loved it. …not quite the Catholic atmosphere that we had at ND, but not bad…and the people there are exceptionally friendly.
