Then one treats those diseases. The pregnacy is not the problem.
This is just irrational justification of sin.
the treatment is either delivering the baby - or if it is too early for that ending the pregnancy
there is no other treatment in these cases we are talking about. If there was another option between both the mother and baby dying or just the baby dying I’d say yes do that! I totally agree

Could cite a legitimate source that calls pregnancy a disease? My understanding of biology indicates that pregnancy is a ordered function of the female reproductive system. It is not a pathology to be eliminated. Again, abortion is a life-taking procedure. It is not life saving.

The complicity of a second party is not the current question and its morality must be evaluated separately.

Why the scare tactics, with bringing my wife into the conversation?
What scare tactic David? Its an honest question. The fact is, you cannot honestly answer the question. And Couples face this every day. You are prochoice weather you want to acknowledge it or not. you simply choose to sacrifice the Life of the mother, instead of the Infant. So congratualtions. using your reasoning, you just side on saving the Infant, and MURDERING the mother. Of course I dont think its murder, Im just looking at things from your point of view.

Seems to me you are comparing apples and oranges. If the innocent, non-combatants were the targets for killing, it would be murder, just like abortion.

Why the false accusation of condemnation? Where have I condemned anyone?
Not comparing apple to oranges. What did we do in Hiroshema and Nagasake? Were these combatants we targeted?

When I say that no parent in their right mind would allow their child to have an abortion, then yes, I am implying that I would be in my right mind. Thus, of course, I would not allow my daughter to have an abortion. If there is something which is licit that can be done to safeguard her health, then of course that should be done. But I am not so naive as to think that anything is worth committing a sin, especially something so grave and wicked as abortion.
So you would advocate your daughters death. Ok Thank you. You would decide then to “murder” your daughter to save the unborn child. Remember. you as the responsible parent are making the decision for a minor. Im just looking at it from your view. You then would be guilty of a mortal sin, by allowing your daughter to die. we are all pro choice weather we like it or not.

what on earth does that have to do with anything?
Will the innocent bystander also die if your wife doesn’t have a heart transplant? Cuz if not this has nothing to do with anything
Thank you, I wont have to reply to that guys irrelavent post. 👍

I think the pro-aborts here would say that they didn’t intend to kill the innocent person – they just took their heart out!
First off, Im not pro abortion. I have walked the line myself many times. This is a specific case though, where the life of the Mother is an issue. This is where most of us in the conservative ranks, DO feel it should be allowed. I can throw out some more real life scenarios to you. I know of Catholic pregancy centers that were started up, by women who have had abortions, and are opposed to the procedure. Let me just say that I Thank God you or dave have never had to be confronted personally by any of these issues. You can quite comfortably, keep living in the hypothetical world while some of us attempt to sort these issues of war and the life of the mother out in REAL life. And also may I add, I hope you never are confronted with these issues. I think you would also be making a terrible choice.

I loved Pope John Paul II <3 what an incredibly kind man 🙂

It shocks me because this entire thread has seemed so harsh and cold towards a woman who was in the worst possible situation having to loss a child to save her own life - or die leaving her other children motherless… and still the life of that unborn child is lost -
how many times has this person been called a murderer -
and then we go to charity and if we put someone to death who is a danger to society the :“right” way we can send them straight to heaven…
Here is the Kicker. Many more people read these threads without posting. There are potentially thousands of those we dont hear from. So they come onto a Catholic forum, perhaps looking for a little bit of compassion by their Brothers and Sisters, and All they see, is that they are a murderer, simply for taking an action to save their own life. How sad is that? They are already in enough turmoil due to this descision they made, and many in their own family want to rub salt in their wounds. I think the ultra left of our Chruch are just plain stupid. But I think the ultra right like we have here, are just plain heartless, and WOULD have stoned the woman caught in adultrey. Some of yall have much work to do on 1rst corinthians 13. What evil are you committing, that you have to be so harsh on Mothers who have had to make this horrible decision? Are you in a position to cast stones?

Would you not want a person to go straight to Heaven?

Even someone who has committed abortion still be saved and go straight to Heaven, they just have to confess their sin, have their excommunication lifted, and do penance. The temporal punishment for abortion is infinite because the value of the child’s life is infinite, but God will commute that infinite temporal punishment to some finite amount.

Certainly I can be compassionate towards someone who has committed such a serious crime as abortion but the first step is honesty.
Really Pilgrim? But you just stated you would not allow your daughter to HAVE this option. You stated you would choose DEATH for your daughter. Why could you allow this for a total stranger, and not for your own flesh and blood? And you only save your compassion for those that have only confessed thier sin? Where would we be if Christ thought like this? May I remind you, that while we were yet sinners, He loved us. May I remind you, that you were not sparkling clean when you came to him broken. I surely was not. I have received cleansing from a whole host of sins. That being said, I am not going to turn a woman away who has had this procedure done, under NO circumstance. They are already suffering enough. Repentance can happen, but its a whole lot harder when the people in the Church Christ set up, are Cold Hearted, and acting with a Holier Than Thou attitude. I thank God my priest has taught me compassion. I thank God I found Catholics who welcomed me in while a sinner, who gently guided me. I thank God, I did not come across Judgmental types, That are found in abundance in protestant fundamentalist congregations. :coolinoff: I pray the Catholichelp Will return to the Church, but that is not going to happen If all she runs into are people waiting to slam her. 😦

Is an unjust war with lots of casualties worse than abortion?
No, an unjust war with lots of casualties is not worse than abortion. Abortion is far worse in my opinion. That said, it may be a fact that abortion is far worse than unjust war. I am honestly not sure. Finally, abortion receives an automatic excommunication. I do not believe that the perpetrators of an unjust war are excommunicated at all but I may be wrong on that.

Every single murder is wrong. Heart breaking. Have you ever been to the site of the Oklahoma bombing. There is a beautiful statue of Christ across the street. His back is to the site. The only words… “And Jesus Wept…” We are all God’s chidren. I suspect the most wise among us is still an “infant” in Christ’s eyes. There is so much we don’t know, understand…

Abortion: it’s so much easier to control. We’re talking one woman, one doctor, a few assistants. It’s so unnecessary, It’s a fear based problem

War: War just sucks. It’s on a bigger scale. How do you decide it’s unjust? If there were a country killing all unborn babies, and we sent in the military to stop it… would the war be unjust? What if every person in the country thought it was fine, and had no moral issue with it. We’d trade lives for lives??? What if the exact swap was equal?

I look at Iraq. I don’t even know anymore what I think about it. Iraq stole a very dear friend. I have a hard time forgiving war. I have friends that came back. War stole a part of their spirit, it changed them. I can’t decide if in a good or bad way. I pray for them. And I think to myself, there is no longer a man there that abuses a soccer team for losing. (among a million other. more awful things)… I worry that I don’t care that he lost his life. I’m sure God thought it was precious. I’m so human, it’s painful! Yet, I’ve learned lessons. I have much more to learn.

I pray for soldiers I don’t even know. Men and women who could really be jerks at heart… the idea that children, and spouses are left behind… It’s gut wrenching for a friend. I can’t imagine my husband not coming home from work for the danger at work. But I pray. I would like war to end as much as I would like abortion to end.
Yes, UTOPIA is where I’d like to live on earth!
My condolences for your losses. And my prayers are with you. And finally Thank you for your support and prayers. :signofcross:

Do you have an legitimate data to back up your claim that couples face life and circumstances relative to pregnancy every day?

How can you possibly judge my honesty? Have you run out of rational arguments so you have to attack me personally?

Your argument that one has to do an abortion to save a mother’s life is a logical fallacy - a false dicotomy. I reject it out of hand as purely emotion based and without factual basis.

Not comparing apple to oranges. What did we do in Hiroshema and Nagasake? Were these combatants we targeted?
What claim have I made relative to use of the A-bomb in Japan? My personal opinion is that it was an immoral choice because the loss of innocent life was too great. As such it was not a just act, even though the war may have been just.

on the contrary david. I think it is you who have run out of rational arguments. And I am sure that that on this globe, that this situation is faced by couples every day. At least Pilgrim was able to answer this. 🤷

Please do not call me “pro-abortion” you can call me pro choice if you choose… but since you don’;t know its rather unfair to say that I am pro abortion -
I worked half my life preventing abortions …
But in consoling these women I can think I can honestly tell you the intent of every women having an abortion is not murder-.It is not that simple. it is not that cold and heartless.

A hypothetical world? No I did this all day every day for years… I spent years working with women in these situations and some times worse situations - I know all kinds of “intents” for abortion -

I have been confronted with some pretty rough situations luckily my choices are not yours to judge 🙂

Yes it was Just to use the bomb. We targeted a civilan population with a horrible weapon to save millions of more lives that would have been lost, had we invaded. In the same way, An abortion to save a mothers life is justifiable. The intent is to save lives, or a life. Not to take them.

Who is casting stones? No one has been condemned.

No matter how horrible the circumstances, they cannot ever justify a gravely immoral act.

Please refrain from rhetorical name calling.

Sure will, when people stop calling mothers who procure an abortion to save their own lives, Murderers.

👍 Actually we are all pro choice. Some of us can just acknowledge it better than others. I also know you work your butt off to save lives. Peace and prayers for you. 🙂

Being pro-choice is not the same as being pro-abortion. Who in their right mind says that they are pro-abortion and let’s have more abortions? As I stated in one of my previous posts, there are valid religious differences compared to Catholicism (in Judaism, Quakerism, and so on) regarding when life begins and there is no social or moral consensus on this issue. However, there is a social, moral, and legal consensus that AFTER birth, the baby is entitled to all the rights of a human being. So, obviously, ripping someone’s heart out to save your own wife is legally, socially, and morally wrong. On a somewhat lighter note, I remember several years ago John Cardinal O’Connor of New York City, the Archbishop of St. Patrick’s Cathedral, whom most New Yorkers of every faith, including myself, loved and revered, made a comment that he thought it inappropriate that there was a baseball game scheduled on Good Friday. Most people protested his remark, including Catholics. Why? Although he had the right to free speech, it was inappropriate for him to wish to impose his religious beliefs on all of New York City, especially since NYC is such a multicultural, multiethnic and multireligious city. But even if it weren’t, it would still have been inappropriate. The same I believe is true of the abortion issue. Protest the current laws, yes, by all means; but impose one’s moral viewpoints on others, no.
