. . . the experts tell me I shouldn’t do this, but I do this anyway!

IF I know an artist is morally scummy, it makes me dislike her music (or his music) or film or painting.

Can’t exactly say why. . . but one’s immoral behavior really taints an artist’s work for me.

I’m not sure which experts you are referring to, but, on a case by case basis, you should take into account fact-based information about certain artists, Sadly, some engage in and/or support immoral behavior publicly. We should realize we all fall short but public scandal is public scandal and we should avoid supporting those who support immoral things. We should also, with kindness, contact them and offer the truth and encouragement. Some artists fall into certain behaviors because of the influences around them. Try to be a good influence.

Peace,
Ed

I may be guilty of the same thing. But in more general terms as it gives me great pause about a person when I know, (I mean know, not assume or believe another) that they are engaged in very immoral behavior. I don’t reject them outright necessarily, but I sure do use a lot of caution if they are going to be part of my life via circumstances I can’t control.

As for art or music, I am extremely picky anyway. A good deal of what the majority of people might call art or music I find to be disturbing at best. There is very little I like in this modern time, and I mean very little.

I am having difficulty with this myself.
On the one hand, I love movies with Katharine Hepburn (who had a love affair with Spencer Tracy while he was still married) and Elizabeth Taylor (seven marriages and six divorces).

On the other hand, I can no longer listen to Elton John’s music since he came out of the closet.

And as for Madonna, I loved her performance in Evita, but I wouldn’t buy any of her music (because I don’t like most of it) because of some of the things she has said publicly, and because her concerts have been scummy.

I don’t want to be judgemental, but I guess I am anyway, to a greater extent than I care to admit. I am not so judgemental with a person who is in the same room as I (or on the phone, let’s not get too literal).

There is nothing wrong in preferring the work of an artist who is morally upright over the work of an artist who has been a sleaze.

I don’t care what the artist/performer is doing in their personal life, but if they make a point of being obscene in their art or performance, their stuff isn’t for me.

I feel the same way
