Hello all,

I am currently attending RCIA and I am enjoying it thoroughly. However I honestly don’t know what I should be doing right know. I know I need to attend mass more frequently but I feel unsure of how to properly grow in the faith as I feel stagnant.

Thank You

Hi FJ, I would say pray and let the Holy Spirit move you. There are dynamic Catholics who just love to tell people about their faith, just look at these forums…Ahhh~~~!! You might join ministries or read spiritual books about the saints or the faith… I get mine at religious stores which has Catholic books and through my church, You might want to order some through the library as well. Enrolling in a bible study class is an awesome way to learn about the faith from a biblical perspective…

Here’s a website to look for ideas or resources to help you grow in your Catholic faith…

loyolapress.com/living-as-a-catholic-family.htm?class_id=12&parent_class_id=

But mostly praying about what you are learning is a good thing to do to learn about the faith. You might visit an adoration chapel and just spend time with Our Lord…When you start to receive your sacraments, the spirit of God will help you in your spiritual and sacramental life… I wish you all the best on your journey and welcome!

The first thing is you must believe what you are being taught, so study the Catechism carefully and meditate on what you are reading and ask God’s help over the difficult things.

Secondly, you have to pray. It is a good idea to spend at least a half hour each morning and evening in prayer and meditation. There are prayer books from Catholic sources which will be a help. And you should spend a little time each day reading the Scriptures.

But the Catholic faith is a faith of action, you have to live it, not just know it. If it isn’t a part of your daily life it will fade away. It is not an emotional faith of bells and whistles. Sometimes God grants the " peace that surpasses understanding " and even " consolations, " but not often. It is a faith of intellect, will, it is about doing what Christ taught and what he wants us to do.

An addition to my previous post. Here is a web site which you may find helpful, it is sponsored by a former Protestant and it has some good resources. Be sure to take a look at his blog by clicking the link at the top of the page.

It takes time to grow spiritually in the faith. I joined through RCIA, and it’s been over twenty years now. Conversion is an ongoing every day process as long as we are living here in this world. For learning about the faith, you have a good resource with Catholic Answers. I also highly recommend watching EWTN if you aren’t already doing that.

Just keep praying that the Holy Spirit will reveal the gifts and mission He has set aside for you. Look at the activities in your parish and try some of them to see where you might be drawn. This is a great time of year to volunteer with Catholic Charities to support holiday missions to the needy for Thanksgiving and Christmas. These types of activities will often give you a sense of where you are being called to serve.

I grow a lot listening to Catholic radio and studying Scripture, but you can also learn a lot hanging out here on CAF.

Is there a bible study at your parish?
