I went to vatican.va and uploaded copies of Redemtionis Sacramentum and the Instruction regarding non-ordained co-operation in the Mass.

Anyway, as I was reading them, I almost felt as if I was checking them off, the abuses. I was simply saying, “Yup, I see that, that abuse too, yes, that happens, oh, that’s an abuse?”

Moving along, I finally came to the conclusion that, to see all of the abuses of the Mass in action, I had three options: 5:30 pm, 9 am and 11 am. With these abuses of the Mass so rampant in my diocese, I knew I could not just sit back and do nothing. Right now I am trying to formulate some sort of plan of action with which to attempt to raise awareness of actual Church teachings.

However, I am unsure how to go about it, except that I must tread carefully. Any advice?

Be charitable. Be stern.

Start by writing a letter to the pastor about these abuses. If he shrugs them off for whatever reason, write to the bishop. If again you get no satisfactory reply, write to Rome. I believe Cardinal Arinze is the one in charge of the liturgy.

I’ve posted this before but it looks like it might be time for another copy and paste. The whole effort would be tooooooooooooooooo long to post. If you’re interested in more details on what we did, send me a PM.

Our bishop was of retirement age. Our diocese was very abuse ridden. We launched a final campaign to lobby for an orthodox replacement. We launched a website and some in our group gathered up all of the documentation and examples of abuses over the years (actually, a lot of it was recent since we were always being expose to it) and burned it onto a multi-media CD. It had video of clown masses, awful diocesan letters, letters to us from our Bishop, etc., etc., etc. They sent it off to many offices in Rome including the Pope, Cardinal Ratzinger’s office, Congragation of Bishops, etc., the Papal Nuncio. A few months later we were assigned a GREAT bishop. We wondered for a few months if anything we did helped and then Cardinal Ratzinger called a priest friend of ours to his office and asked him if he knew the people who were lobbying for an orthodox replacement. He vouched for us and Cardinal Ratzinger told him to tell us that the CD was the biggest thing to ever hit Rome and that everyone (presumably even the Pope) had seen it and it had been passed around. He also said we should spread this method to others. We had another independent confirmation of the success of the CD when one of us was vacationing in Rome. They ran into a friend who had a priest from the Congregation of Bishops with him. They were introduced as being from our diocese and the first words out of this priests mouth were “Are you the ones who put together that CD?” He said it was very helpful to see first hand what was happening in our diocese. If anyone else would like more info, please PM me.

Sadly, I think it’s come down to something of this nature…
Dr. Bombay:
Take your video camera to Mass next time, burn a copy and send it to the Bishop. If he doesn’t respond, send it to the Vatican. Make sure you specify the date, the priest’s name, parish and city.

A picture’s worth a thousand words.

I understand that the Pope will be holding a Bishop’s Synod soon to discuss all these abuses and tighten the reins, so to speak, so in the meantime, recognize these abuses, pray that the Holy Spirit will guide the Pope and the bishops to correct these, and start spreading the word. 👍

Clown Masses? What precisely would that be?

Anyway, I have two rather large signs dedicated to your effort:
:blessyou: :amen:

I put together a small flyer for distribution to the laity, so as to raise awareness (and therefore support) for the Church Law. However, this effort is going to need to be co-operative.

As is per usual, I am in this one alone. My family thinks I’m an idiot, that it is a hopeless cause (though it doesn’t help that they also disagree with me about it).

Thank you for the advice.

Just another little piece of advice. If you can, build a website. Much cheaper than flyers and if you’re lucky, you can find a teen willing to stand outside a church on Sunday with a sign that simply reads www.yourwebsitenamehere.com You can’t believe how much traffic that gets. It’s also fun have someone who is saying a monthly rosary in front of the chancery office holding the sign.

Another cheap thing and easily slipped into things is do-it-yourself business cards with the website address. It’s cheaper and the website can be updated with no money to change it.

As for clown masses…don’t ask. It’s not pretty and about 5,000 people will post a picture which is too large for the forums. 😉

I am still in school, and so I have decided to begin my work there (my age- hence why my family thinks I’m a moron because I believe I can make some sort of difference).

I am toting about quotes from Church documents, and posing them to the theologically inclined. They, in turn, always end up agreeing with me, and so I am building a large base. Then, following this, I am working through the school prayer group to attempt to promote holding fast to Church instruction.

I have two of my closest friends on my side, and will create a website at some point. From there, we can all three (plus some, I hope) spread the word to our parishes, and attempt to get some priests to our cause. Once a large enough base is gathered, we may find it within our power to appeal the bishop, and, if he ignores us, Rome.
